Storm writer. Hair messer. Window gazer. Final girl.

Me before inviting any man into my home for any reason: “I know where all the sharpest knives are. There are also a lot of stairs in here and you’d never be able to see them in the dark until it’s too late.”

Maybe I love it because I’ve lost a partner too and there is a certain type of poetry that only arises from ash, but if you’ve never read “Just Kids”, please do it. I revisit it every few years like an old friend. It gets better every time.

Me handing out my famous Halloween treat bags, as always. A Dad dressed as Jack Sparrow knocks on the door alone. Him: “I hear you have Nerds gummy clusters, m’lady.” Me: *hands him a treat bag* “Now off with you, scallywag.”

The story of my life: finding out that men had crushes on me 10+ years ago & never did anything about it. By the time I find out, they are either: married, moved away, dead, dead to me, or in one case, is now a woman. (That one rules the most.)

I always find it strange when people who read a lot are not great writers, but then I remember that it doesn't mean they know how to articulate feelings. It just means they know how to read about them.

I am really grateful to have friends who understand that emotions are my wind tunnel & I’ll stand in them until I learn to control the gusts with my own hands. It’s just writer stuff. Magic stuff.

Me to my friend: “The three most important things I have to do this week are as follows: carve pumpkins, finish planning out my Samhain ritual, & watch my two fave seasonal movies, “Carnival of Souls” & “Over the Garden Wall”. Him: “Let me know if you need help wrangling live bats or whatever.”
