He/Him. Long-time ttrpg gamer, game writer, and non-grognard. Also ceramic artist and mixed material sculptor. GenCon 2026 was my 49th in a row!

The games I played at GenCon this year just served to remind me how seldom I’ve played instead of run games over the past decades. The d20s I have in my dice bag are the old ones that are numbered 1-10 twice… you had to color in one set of number to designate the teens.

At Gen Con…The Black Ark, source of all the world’s cryptids, was explored and protected from big-game-hunting billionaires who wanted to release them all into the world at once! …in the finale of the incredible adventures of the Beverly Killbillies!

I learned today that a long-time friend and fellow artist from the Harper College studios, Bernie Bluestein, died last year at the age of 102. I held Bernie dear. He was an incredible artist and was always interested and supportive of my crazy artwork. Bernie was also one of… 1/3

Throwback to 8 years ago when I made these fun little ceramic tokens with decals of classic David Trampier art fired onto them. I left them in random places around GenCon for people to find and take. I always wonder what happened to them.

Looking through the Ennie Award nominations, & once again this year I have a message for the nominees: I’m begging you, for the love of all things, if you’ve been nominated in a category, have a sample on your site of the thing you’ve been nominated for for voters to see. Looking at you Cartography!

I’ve been sick as balls for a week now… spiking fever, lethargy, sharp ear pains started Tues. Urgent Care yesterday: Ear infection. All this to say, I haven’t been reading all your posts for a few days, and I’m sorry.

I had an odd dream last night. Odd, because it was one of the 2 or 3 pleasant dreams I have a year. (I’ve had nightmares every night since about 1988.) In it, I met Matt Mercer at a yard sale. I introduced myself, and he said he knew me and had enjoyed the things I’d done in… 1/3

Man, I wish I’d asked a friend to go down to the reflecting pool in DC, before they stationed nation guard troops there, and retrieve me a little chunk of blue paint. That would have made a great addition to my "real world spell components" collection! Goes on the "life regrets" list.

“Insufficient memory”? Let me tell you about the Mac Plus I bought in 1986 with its 20mb external hard drive (that was *required* to use, as the Mac had almost no internal memory). Whole thing cost me nearly $4k (in 1986 dollars). Started my game editing career on it. Kids these days…
