Happy to announce that three first-authored papers got accepted at #AIES2026! The topics include resisting surveillance, AI-washing, marketing and computer vision. Happy to connect with fellow researchers at AIES! Details of my papers:

AI ethics hardly has anything to do with the use of AI anyway. It is about thinking critically who benefits from this technology, who structurally carries the burden, by whom it is built, from which ideologies and how this manifests in its harmful societal impact.

TIME SENSITIVE: NeurIPS is launching a new Affinity Support Pilot Program! Award recipients will receive support to present their research at #neurips2026 affinity events. We encourage you to thoroughly read the requirements before applying. The deadline is July 20 AoE. (1/2)

🚨 I’m still seeking an emergency reviewer for an ARR May 2026 submission on LLM-based image segmentation. Please DM me if you’re qualified to review for ARR (at least 2 ACL/AI conference pubs and 1 other pub), and could complete a review for it in the next couple days! 🙏

As local governments move more into using AI-assisted translation for important government docs, this is a very important issue to keep in mind. General purpose translation tools might not be as good when you want to execute specific tasks (or want specific info to be translated properly)

Most Multilingual benchmarks measure what models know, not what they can reliably do. Our #ACL2026 paper introduces functional benchmarks in six languages from English to Yoruba to test whether models can actually execute tasks across languages, not just answer fixed questions about them. 🧵1/n

the ACL is telling me that my free registration for being an outstanding area chair only applies to virtual attendance lololol fuck I hate this organization

I will be presenting our work titled "Making a Name for Myself: On Academic Naming Policies and their Impact" this week at #FAccT2026. This paper talks about why names matter, why name change policies are important, how people benefit from it and what's still left to do.

Queer in AI is proud to showcase several papers that our members are presenting at @facct.bsky.social 2026 tomorrow through Sunday. One paper examines how years-long activism around name change policies has had an immensely positive impact for authors, benefiting both queer and cis scholars! 🤝🌈

I have to review 16 papers this week (sigh). The quality of papers in AIES and KONVENS are way higher than the papers I was assigned to review for EMNLP and NeurIPS.

I made churros and coffee for all my students in my LLM coding class today. Hopefully, this entices them to come to the next session, where they have to attempt some really difficult mechanistic interpretability exercises.

European teachers, how do you all teach LLMs programming basics to your students? Do you all have labs connected to GPU clusters? Recently, I have been putting up my code on colab so students can play with it; but Colab is kinda limiting.

I've just got hundreds of new citations in Google Scholar Apparently, you can search your name and first letter + last name and find tons of badly parsed versions of your papers. (Yes, citations don't matter, but making camera ready is boring, and I needed an escape,...)
