there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

BALLAD FOR BLACK CASSANDRA was a new type of personal project for me that I'm still very fond of. You can read it for free in this thread: bsky.app/profile/oliv... or pick up the PDF here: oliveoilcorp.itch.io/ballad-for-b...

Page 1 of the comic poem BALLAD FOR BLACK CASSANDRA. A Black woman stands in the middle of towering trees with large holes in their trunks. She wears a sheer slip dress and looks up at the orange sky. Caption: THE SKY HAS A CRACK IN IT.Page 2 of the comic poem BALLAD FOR BLACK CASSANDRA. Following the woman's line of sight, we're looking up at an angry-looking sky that almost looks split down the middle. The shot is framed by a pair of damaged trees. CAPTION: "A big gaping wound right there, in the middle." In the next panel, thick droplets of moisture run down a harsh cloudy-looking texture. CAPTION: "It leaks."Page 5 of the comic poem BALLAD FOR BLACK CASSANDRA. Panel 1: Sweat drips down the woman's face as she exerts herself. Panel 2: The woman is small against the backdrop of the fracturing sky as she climbs the steep cliffside. Panel 3: The woman has climbed to the top. She holds on for dear life at the edge of the cliff, trying to address a person standing there in front of her. The person shares the same exact shape as the woman, but their features are obscured by the same swampy textures that can be seen inside the crack of the sky. They are You. Caption: "I came to tell You about the crack." Panel 4: You turns their head up to gaze at the cracked sky. Page 5 of the comic poem BALLAD FOR BLACK CASSANDRA.
