I see a lot of people on here saying an academic school education has great cultural value and education should not align with employment. I'm sorry, but 30% of 14 year olds feel the education system we have offers them nothing at all. Reform is vital, options have to be there to keep all engaged.

My son's special school has a catering-quality kitchen, a hair & beauty salon, a fitted gym, and a craft barn. Of course diverse kids need diverse educational options from age 14. 'Academically-focussed' OFSTED- outstanding schools that believe vocational study is a bit of art and PE have no clue.

If I get cancer, I get all my care for free at the point of need. If I get Alzheimers, I get nothing until I have emptied my savings and sold my house. We need a National Care Service, funded through a compulsory National Care Insurance levied on home ownership.

I don't know where to even begin with this. Just imagine publishing a Nature paper about the 'success' of your new gene editing methods, but omitting to mention that the 6 year old who actually received the unauthorised treatment died.

One day a week, the 13yo goes to alternative provision in an outdoor/farm setting. Today he helped a chick hatch from an egg. Then, as the last day of the school year, the kids had inflatables to play on and a bucket of KFC delivered for lunch. He had so much fun he's gone hoarse with shouting!

I don't doubt LaTeX is great. However modern science (and higher education) are collaborative endeavours. We are not alone in ivory towers. Almost all the documents I produce are co-created with other people. Most people don't/can't use LaTeX and it would be wrong for me to insist that they must.
