This is such a pity. When I visited Philadelphia, I was enormously impressed with America's capacity to be truthful about its past. Many other nations would not have done this. America did. And it was the stronger and better for it.

The Washingtons not only "owned" hundreds of enslaved people, they deliberately moved the nine they had with them in Philadelphia every six months to dodge laws in Pennsylvania that would have emancipated them. To deny that history is to deny Americans of that truth. 1/2 apnews.com/article/slav...
