Here's a #HigherEducationPostcard of what became in time the University of East London The University still uses this building and it is fabulous If you like this image, I’d really appreciate a repost - remember, BlueSky has #NoAlgorithm

Not the trash!into a file called ‘I might use this lovely thing one day on something completely different and dead good’
Book manuscript update: It's kill your darlings day. Writing isn't just rewriting - it's painfully deleting your oh so beautiful words & sending your most treasured sentences to the trash.🗑️
My grandfather was a founder, Fabian
I think I'm probably a bit late to this, but I've recently noticed that a new conspiracy theory is getting a lot of traction. Apparently, for decades now Britain has been secretly (but also 'shockingly, in plain sight'!) controlled by ... 🥁🥁🥁 ... the Fabian Society 🤣🤣🤣
How was this? The same but today we are having a massive downpour
Our grass has suffered 😢 Hopefully the forecast rain 🌧️ this week will help
@roguestrands.bsky.social dear Matthew, I would very much like one of these books. Every time I read an extract it echoes with me. I just tried to buy one on Amazon and they aren’t selling it. How do I get it?
Summer pudding made and ready for tea tomorrow
Looks delicious, though never tried!
It is. Be sure to make it today and eat it tomorrow.

I’ve just picked some redcurrant and will definitely make us some pudding this week
#RecipeOfTheDay is Summer Pudding! It’s the only dessert my mother ever made, but its appeal goes beyond mere nostalgia: it is the very essence of British summertime. And thick cream is an essental accompaniment, I feel. www.nigella.com/recipes/summ...
I still do this and my sons are in their late 40s and early 50s
Plus it gives the parent the option of deploying the full name when the kid is in trouble.
When I had my last hip replaced under spinal block the music I chose was generic Motown. My next hip is being replaced soon and I am going to ask for early Rolling Stones. I saw them for the first time at the California ballroom Dunstable in about 1965
I'm looking forward to psychedelic age care with constant piped Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe and the Fish, the Incredible String Band, Ultimate Spinach, Quicksilver Messenger Service, spiced up with a little Fugs, topped off with a smidgeon of Nice, Cream & added humour from early Leonard Cohen.
It’s me that is late 70s not the music
I have this fear too! Late 70s rock chick here!

Just saw a video of someone singing Vera Lynn to old people in a home despite most of them being too young to remember the war, and it's unlocked a new terror in me of being elderly and them making my teenager-in-the-00s ass listen to WW2 music because "that's what old people like".
Congratulations to the three of you for a great blog

Your poem just keeps resonating with me. It should be on the gcse set texts list because lots of kids have grandparents well into injury time
Very true, Sally!
The closing minutes of a football match as an extended metaphor for old age...
Here's my new poem from this week's issue of The Spectator. I hope you like it...!
Having just been out and about watering the garden and moving pots, et cetera while Phil stays out of the Sun, I think it could be something to do with older women not having the common sense to stop doing jobs in the heat of the Sun
Having lived through the Paris 2003 heatwave it really seemed elderly women were at greatest risk of death. Now we know. I've also read much anecdotal evidence (make of that what you will) that estradiol HRT can reduce heat tolerance, so be careful out there <all> my sisters in oestrogen-taking.
Expanding ULEZ London-wide was even more important than we previously thought. Action on air pollution has been life-saving.
Deaths linked to London air pollution have fallen 40%, study estimates
However, Imperial College team also find that pollution has worse health impact than previously understood

Well because they mean against the sun. You should be asking why they don’t call umbrellas paraplui like they do in france
Why don't they call parasols sunbrellas?
