"There was talk about how the corpse, back when it was a man named Steve, wasn’t particularly full of life. How he didn’t particularly light up a room when he entered it. In fact, no one ever noticed when he was in the room." - Joseph Linscott mrbullbull.com/newbull/fict...

so many more interesting things—and just as many annoying things!—happening in literature in 2025. wtf are we doing here, man?
I want to popularize a term of art for this particular litfic genre trope: the Sad Boner Professor. It's a novel about a Professor (usually of American Literature). He is Sad. Also, he has a Boner. His boner is inordinately interested in the sexy, sexy student: also, he's sad because: wife. /1
Rejection was the best book I’ve read so far this year. So great
Amid all the idiot chatter about men and reading, men and writing, some of the best books I've read lately are by men about masculinity, and instead of baseless whingeing, we could be talking about these: Mark Haber, Lesser Ruins Tony Tulathimutte, Rejection Andrew Lipstein, Something Rotten
▶️ NOW PLAYING Had a great and fascinating conversation w @tonytula.com about his superb and very funny novel-in-stories, REJECTION ( @wmmorrowbooks.bsky.social). 🎧 Available wherever you get your podcasts.

Whether Real or Not
So they threw me up in the prison in Limon. Wasn’t supposed to be for too long, but I had a mouth on me at that point in life and I had the hands to back it up, so one thing led to another and

Was that a positive gain on first down? For the Texans????
I spent a large part of 2024 listening to all of Michelle Zauner’s musical projects, so it’s only fitting I end the year having this piece published in the excellent @major7mag.bsky.social www.major7mag.com/post/rugged-...

Kinda forgot that Pederson still has his job so seeing him quoted in this was a jump scare
Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence expected to play vs. Texans, coach Doug Pederson says: Lawrence was sidelined with a left shoulder injury and has not played since Week 9.

The defensiveness/cope of Broncos fans is really admirable when the team is bad and really really annoying when they have any sort of expectations
Every season, there is a new fanbase who gets very weird about their QB. This year, I am sad to report that it's the Broncos.
always satisfying when an article about some stupid assholes includes a photo that’s like “yep that’s them, the stupid assholes”
Nothing as jarring as reading a *Best Of* book of stories where they're all hitting and then one bafflingly bad story breaks the magic
