I will never understand how we got to a place where expecting corporations to pay for externalities (ie the costs of their products for society) seems like an extreme idea.

If you look at the people and companies creating AI, this is inevitable. The worst people on the planet are creating the most dangerous tech on the planet. And politicians and investors are treating it like a game.

I'm a writer, so AI is of absolutely no value to me. If I wanted to write badly and increase the number of errors, I could just hit myself over the head with a giant rock.

A *very* busy actor who bounced between films & TV, he's in such classics as BLACK CHRISTMAS and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and he does a wonderful job in the chilling NIGHT GALLERY episode "I'll Never Leave You - Ever." He died at age 83.
It irritates the hell out of me that something so obviously fake can get 8000 likes on this site.

I'd suggest "affirmative action" is more accurate in these situations. Rich white guys with rich white parents have been the primary beneficiaries of special treatment/affirmative action throughout history. And they know it, which is why any attempt to rein in that privilege infuriates them.

This seems to be based on an outdated idea of what PR does. My guess is that fewer than half of PR people in this survey have ever knowingly talked to a journalist or written a press release. That's not the job any more.

The only sane use of the navy under these circumstances would br humanitarian: to help these people reach shore safely. The fact that nobody is even suggesting that is an indication of how badly British values have declined.

It is, actually, an interesting story, and thanks for the gift article. Now maybe somebody could tell us how and why the Times itself went from "standing up to Trump to bending the knee." Because that has had far more damaging consequences.

It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Nowhere does she say that the person who beat her took money from AIPAC. If you are denying that AIPAC spent money to defeat her, you are delusional. If anti-semitism in the Democratic Party is on the rise, AIPAC is a major cause.
