For me, identifying primarily as 'Cymraeg' is feeling most at home in her landscape, climate & culture, distinct from a broader 'British' (or even 'European') identity in the same way others may identify as "Northern" or "West-Country". I'm yet to see how "English" is less nebulous than "British".

Copying a comment I made in response to a video about the recent rise of ๐™จ๐™ฅ๐™š๐™˜๐™ž๐™›๐™ž๐™˜๐™–๐™ก๐™ก๐™ฎ ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™ก๐™ž๐™จ๐™ ethno-nationalism because I genuinely think about this a lot, and these thoughts deserve better than either falling on deaf ears or being a lightning rod for weirdos & bots.

Screencap of a youtube comment I made:

The notion of "Millennia of indigenous English people" is really funny to me as a Welsh person, because "England" has only existed as a unified entity for a single millennium, and the Cymraeg for 'English' is 'Saeson'. This word shares its root with the Gร idhlig 'Sassenach' and Kernewek 'Sowsnek'. It means "Saxon", because y'know, those were the people who rocked up one day and displaced the native population into the hills. Follow that with migrations after the Danelaw and the Norman Conquest. As The White Stripes once said "Why don't you kick yourself out? You're an immigrant too".

England's (and by extension Britain's) monarchy, identities, ethnicities, languages, religions, cultures, traditions and foods are the product of millennia of conquest, empire and migration. From Roman Emperors to The King's Greek dad, Migration is at the core of these isles and it's delirious revisionism to claim otherwise.

Some Lula supporters apparently shouted his name out their window when it was announced he won and a cop pointed his gun at him and they took what is possibly the greatest image of a cop ever taken, like genuinely this would go hard as a cover for a Rage album its so poetic.

Cop on the street at night pointing a gun upwards across the street to the second floor of a building at the camera-holder, the streetlight illuminates him casting his shadow in the appearance of a Sieg Heil.

It's... Odd, thinking about how long I've 'Been Trans' I used to say April 2015 because that's when I successfully got referred to a GIC, but as of Thursday it'll be 13 years since I first went to a GP, looking for answers/help. Fuck when I went "full time". Medical gatekeeping doesn't define me.

I really like that the swansong of internal combustion is a resurgence of manual transmissions in enthusiast cars. Is it the objective fastest? No, but the objective fastest hasn't had a box of explosions powering it for quite a while now. Is it the most fun? For some folks, yeah!

It's funny that for a party which mandated that all of its elected members have to hawk the JCB Pothole machine that they're not advocating for a return of Shilling ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰ (I bet these larpers don't even know how many Pennies there were to a Shilling, or Shillings to the Pound...)

Fantastic news! I canโ€™t wait to measure my garden in roods, buy potatoes by the peck and calculate my commute in furlongs. All so people whoโ€™ve not used imperial in 40 years can get a patriotic erection before realising they havenโ€™t a fucking clue what a scruple is.

Covid-19 killed BioWare, same as it is killing so much else in Games, and I'm not talking about Remote Working or any of that shit. In 2020, when we were all locked at home, the games industry was eating good, while so many other sectors burned. It caused a massive Venture Capital gold rush.
