Atoms for Peace Galaxy (NGC 7252 / Arp 226) - From Rolf Wahl Olsen - https://flic.kr/p/ddg1vs

This peculiar galaxy is the result of a merger between two separate disc galaxies which has now just entered the phase of settling down. The two original galaxy cores have recently merged leaving giant arcs and swirls of the collision still remaining in orbit around the now combined centre.
The resulting structure is known as the Atoms for Peace Galaxy, named for its resemblance to the traditional depiction of an atom, with electrons orbiting the central nucleus. The name was directly inspired by the famous Atoms for Peace speech given by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower before the United Nations in 1953.

This intriguing galaxy is located in Aquarius at a distance of 220 million light years. The outer loops and especially the long ejecta streams are very faint, but the core shines relatively brightly as a stellar point. The combined magnitude of the system is 12.7 within an area of approximately 1.9 x 1.6 arc minutes.
The galaxy is also known as Arp 226, the 226th entry in Arp’s list of peculiar galaxies.
Also visible in the background are numerous distant background galaxies.

Within the swirls of the collision are numerous bright knots some of which are young ultra-luminous globular clusters containing up to a million hot blue stars each. Several hundreds of these exist near the core of the galaxy.

A portable television, in a very 'space age' case: the top is ivory but the sides and frontispiece are cherry red. Twin antenna sprout from the back, a silver tilted carry handle sprouts from the top, and a huge silver grille allows both airflow and speaker. There are a bare minimum of controls on the top of the device itself: an on/off push toggle, a silver tuning dial, a rotary display behind a glass window for current station, and recessed plastic wheels for h-hold, v-hold, brightness, and volume.

Herbig-Haro objects 1 & 2 in narrowband near-infrared, narrowband visible, and a single old wideband red filter. This is a complicated mess that I admit to taking a lot of artistic liberty with. Part of the reason for this being that the jets were moving, and I not only shifted the individual moving parts around from the near-infrared epoch to match the visible epoch, I also completely deleted the moving parts from the wideband filter (imaged 20 years ago).

I felt that this combination of filters created the most compelling version of the image. It is a noise-ridden, resolution-mismatched mess up close, but I sure do enjoy it scaled down. It probably looks fine in the gallery here, but is kind of painful to look at up close. You have been warned.

The infrared data comprising the red component of this image was taken only two days ago. It's awesome! This is another dataset that was released immediately to the public due to it being part of some pre-JWST observations. Later on, we'll get to compare these to what JWST will see. I sincerely hope the views of this live up to the hype. I think it will. There were a lot of gaps in data coverage, but they were in mostly dark areas of the image that I kind of lightly smoothed out the edges to make them unobtrusive.

This illustration is a composite of numerous separate Hubble WFC3 images. A color image composed of exposures made through three color filters shows the disk of Neptune, revealing clouds in its atmosphere. 48 separate images from a single filter were brightened to reveal the very faint moons. The white dots are Neptune's inner moons moving along their orbits during Hubble's observations. The solid green lines trace the full orbit of each moon. The spacing of the moon images follows the timing of each Hubble exposure. About 30 moons are known to orbit Neptune, most of which are too faint or orbit too far away to appear in these images.
