A Message from JP

Five years ago, I started Queer Vox with the help of my trusted voiceover colleagues and friends Sarah Elmaleh, Linsay Rousseau, and Adi Cabral. Though I have often been the face of the organization, it has never been about me. It was always about creating a lasting resource for the queer community to find voiceover training and networking opportunities, regardless of who was at the helm. In fact, I think the organization can only strengthen and grow with the perspectives and experience of new leadership.

So, in accordance with our bylaws, I have concluded my second term as Queer Vox president, and I enthusiastically welcome our new president, Florence Wilder. I hope you... our members, allies, colleagues, and friends... will support Florence in this endeavor as you have supported me. They are a passionate advocate for the queer community and our industry, and I have every faith in their abilities.

As for me, I will still be at QV as executive director, handling administrative duties behind the scenes, but Florence will be leading the agenda and direction.

Many heartfelt thanks to our outgoing board members Adi, Linsay, and Christine Schermerhorn for their incredible service. And so much gratitude for our continuing (and new!) board members for their assistance during this transition.

A message from Florence

Five years ago, I joined a remote class at Queer Vox to better educate myself in voiceover and, more importantly, in who I was. And—beyond the incredible instruction and guidance from JP Karliak, Sarah Elmaleh, and Brock Powell—I felt a proper found home here. Never have I had such a more-welcoming atmosphere from legit strangers-turned-friends. I knew then that this was a group who I’d gladly devote my life and energy toward.

Queer Vox Academy was built on the strong pillars of its founders, and its current Board of Directors are truly experts in what they do. Thanks to all their efforts, we are poised to continue our mission: training and supporting queer voice actors and advocating for equitable and authentic opportunities.

Queer Vox is a haven for our kind, and a place of ongoing education among the voiceover community. And we will continue this role through our frequent classes, by bolstering a commitment to diverse stories, and proving that we are both queer AND excellent.

My sincerest gratitude goes toward our outgoing Board Members for all they’ve done and continue to do in the industry (seriously, go follow them if you haven’t). Your ambitions and impact are aspirational, and I keep your words close to my heart.

You all, the QVA community, have my sincerest and humblest thanks for this opportunity, and we aim to meet and and positively affect your own hopes for the future. May our tomorrows remain vibrant and our steps unwavering.

I do what I can to not pigeonhole them to just trans/nonbinary characters if I can help it--There're all kinds of characters, after all. I love it when they get the chance to perform what they're comfortable with, as opposed to being limited to what others may assume.
