Ageing futurist, still commits occasional fantasy. Novels, games, comics, streaming TV. Purveyor of bent moral compasses. "The High Priest of Violent Science Fiction" - Guardian

Just scribbled my signature on a very important document that's been over a year and a half in gestation...... Exciting stuff inbound..... (which I cannot currently talk about, natch, but Watch This Space.....)

No notes. (TL;DR - academy award nominated writer shits the bed to keep in with Trump cabal) Well one note - this article clearly predates the episode where we discover that America's real enemies are not China, Iran or Russia but Ukraine and the EU. FFS, Sheridan. Get a fucking grip.

An open letter to Taylor Sheridan on his obscene portrayal of Ukraine in Season 3 of “Lioness”

Season 3 doesn’t just misrepresent Ukraine. It recycles the corruption myths and geopolitical talking points Russia wants Americans to believe.

Two things about Star Trek that are strong in my memory - 1) I loved that show as a kid. 2) Even as a kid, I hated the obligatory 2 minute comic relief scene at the end of each episode, complete with sprightly "comic" incidental music, just to underline THIS IS FUNNY, GUYS! IT ALL WORKED OUT FINE!

Voice of the fucking Shires, is it? You imagine it disembodied, moaning over hill and dale weeping and gnashing "not English, not English, my England", vomiting bile over lonely travellers by night. Also know in local legend as "the Daj" "You be home by dark, kids - or the Daj will get you."

I guess there may some thin comfort in seeing phenomena like Trump & Farage as a sign we have moved on, a kind of inoculation against fascism, a weakened dose where last century it took a whole world war and gargantuan slaughter. Maybe our body politic is a more resilient organism this time around.

AM MUST READ: How Trump Tanked Canadian Conservatives >>> 2 months before April 2025 polls showed "[Poilievre] leading Carney ... But Trump hatred among Canadian voters helped catapult Carney from likely defeat to solid victory." h/t Aaron Rupar @atrupar.com www.publicnotice.co/p/trump-mark... #ETTD

Still remember taking my first publisher's advance cheque up to the IR office in Kilmarnock to ask what I needed to do about registering it (I was still employed on salary at Strathclyde uni at the time). Woman behind the counter looked like she was going to pass out in disbelief.......

I still remember when Inland Revenue (as it then was) had local offices where you could go if you had a tax query. Ah the joys of last millennium!
