It's taken me so long to get the coneflowers I bought into the ground that the butterflies are finding them in their pots on the deck.

I'm reading Matt Haig's novel "The Midnight Train". The protagonist's name is Wilbur Budd. I'm struggling with this a bit because our local Wilbur chocolate company makes, well, buds.
Out with the old, in with the new. Our 41 year old AC that got speared by a falling tree limb in our nasty storms was replaced today, so we can be cool!
It's AC week! Insurance came through this past weekend and approved a new AC and a new roof. We went ahead and ordered the AC earlier because realistically we weren't going to live without it no matter who paid. Next I will have people climbing all over the place for roof estimates.

Hello Bluesky, what's up? I don't have any new daylily pics. Between trees falling down, 6" of rain, & 100 deg temps, the garden has about given up. I know I have, I'm going to call it a season and do cleanup, fertilize, and move a number of plants for next year. At least the deck planters made it.
We got power back last night and the WIFI just came on this evening. Life is returning to normal. Mostly. I spent the day on insurance claims and restocking the refrigerator. 😬
Union Pacific's famed Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, went through Hershey today to celebrate America's 250th. Eight of these massive engines have been preserved. 7 are in static displays, this is the only one operating for special excursions. It was LOUD.
Despite the tree smashing, the daylily bed is trying the best it can. And new ones are still popping up in other gardens.
Still no power here. There are so many trees and wires down that there are still a dozen main roads closed. They called in about 2000 workers from other states and Canada and there are utility trucks everywhere. My son in law came and took drone pics, then chainsawed the mess around the house.
Estimated time for our power to be restored is 11PM on Wednesday Jul 8. I'll be moving out. 🥵🫤
I took a lot of pictures of daylilies the last two days. Good thing. We had a horrific storm tonight that drove us to the basement. I have never seen wind that bad in the 42 years I have lived here. Half of our neighbor's tree came down, the top hit our house and crushed my entire side daylily bed.

Today's daylilies once were mine but have been freed from their original shady home to a place in the sun and more fertile soil. This is my daughter's front sidewalk. Most of these were only planted in the last 3 years. 😲

Today's showstopper is called "Black Stockings". It likes the weather better when it's cool and cloudy so I'm glad it got a start before the impending heat wave.
Years ago when I was redoing a bed, I found a daylily I didn't remember. I moved it several times trying to get it to bloom more than a few distorted flowers. I named it the red mutant. It finally bloomed & the flowers are small but poly with extra petals! I think it must have come up from seed.
It's a drizzly, gray day here but that makes the daylily colors look even brighter. All the plants are happy for whatever moisture comes their way.
I met a lively, fit, fun woman through friends in the running club and we got to be casual friends. Her grandkids called her "Bubble" - a perfect match to her personality! I liked her art and bought 2 of her paintings. Sadly, 2 weeks ago, she collapsed and died with no warning. Seize the day!
It's daylily time! The daylilies are starting to put on enough of a show to override my neglect, and I am starting to catch up a bit. Three scoops of mulch delivered today, only about half of my usual, but I decided I needed to be kind to myself right now. 😄

My bathroom cactus is blooming again. It's been throwing flowers often over the last few months. It has a certain "Dr. Suess" vibe.
Today was the Lancaster Art walk. We stopped in to see the Rocky Springs Carousel animals from the early 1900's on display in their temporary home. In 1981 they were moved from their original spot to Michigan, then to Dollywood, then a $1.2 million fundraising effort brought them back to Lancaster.
The white peacock went up on the perch and the blue one came down and fanned, but he couldn't quite get by the white feathers. 😄
