They use payphones! πŸ˜† I really don't miss those things. πŸ˜‚ The kids are cute, as is the budding relationship. I like where this goes. Despite their fame, this is a quiet novella that is easy to enjoy in seemingly no time. Due to the lack of computers and cellphones, I think this steps back to the 1980s. I'm not mathing beyond that tonight. Estrella Flores has been dealt quite the hand when it comes to love and poor decisions. I like that she doesn't just take the garbage they step in. Even more, I love that she puts her kids first and isn't afraid to try something new and scary. Leo β€œThe Lion” RamΓ­rez is so easy to like. He's straightforward, charming in a tender way, and immediately taken with Estrella and her kids. I love his desire to protect and care for them. -- Book quote 'Estrella. The beautiful star. Even her name was captivating.' -- Leo RamΓ­rez I expected heat, but other than a few kisses and passionate caresses, it isn't in the cards. The story stands on its own merits, but that doesn't mean I'm not a little disappointed. In the epilogue, we meet Tempest. I believe she's the focus of book 5 in this series. It's a sweet interaction, making me appreciate this couple even more. I listened to the audio book. The narrators are Oscar Reyes and Vanessa Vasquez. It's like a warm hug, and I happily jump at any opportunity to visit. When it comes to Declan Skye and Sydney Jeremiah, M.D., oh, things are friendly alright. πŸ˜‰ I like that they've already established a friends with benefits situationship. Now, elevating that to the next level? Yeah, Declan has some work to do, and I love that he's not afraid to do it. -- Book quote "You make my chest hurt with how bold you are." -- Declan Skye Declan's protectiveness is a bit much once or twice but also completely in keeping with who he is. I like it more than I think I probably should. Hehehe. I absolutely love it when Sydney finally stands up for herself and blazes her own path. And, the fact that she has a heart of gold makes her that much more endearing. As is the case with any Vivian Arend book, the friends and family add to the joy and chaos. The banter and love are wonderful! I love it. 😍 Prior reading isn't required, but several formerly spotlighted couples from Heart Falls make appearances. Little spoilers are present, but I think it can be read on its own if you feel so inclined. I listened to the audio book. The narrator is the lovely Tatiana Sokolov. It's hot, for certain, but there's also a sweetness to it as things grow. One last comment about the story. Grand-mΓ¨re is easily my favorite supporting character. The narrators, Bryant Walker, Charlotte Claremont, and Iggy Toma, bring all the right amounts of sass and humor to these characters. British slang? That's another story. It's comical for sure, but damn, they wouldn't even say that. There is a fiery kiss, some tree climbing, and a lot of epic flirting and fainting. The entertainment value is humongous and has me in stitches. I may have also cringed a couple of times. Regardless, I look forward to more of these loons. There is a DV situation that occurs offscreen and leads to all kinds of chaos throughout. Unlike the romances, it is one storyline that does resolve. The rest? A stinking cliffhanger, I tell ya. I listened to the audio book. The narrators, Casey Long and Pagan McGrath, are the terrific. Truly. The accents are awesome, and they ensure the chaos clearly conveys to my ears. While interesting to see how they were independently impacted by those events, I also found it distracting early on. Given where the story goes, it's necessary, but it doesn't always flow well. I struggled to get behind these two. I would like her and dislike him. Then, a chapter or two later, like him and dislike her. They're dysfunctional in a way that takes the fun out. It's uncomfortable. Perhaps that's what will draw some people to them, but it didn't work for me. The ending was the best part. No, silly, not because it was over, although I can understand why you might think that. It's because that was the first time I felt a connection between them. It was the first time that it felt like they belonged together, had any business being in the same space together. I do like the ending, I just wished I was more into them the whole time. I had a hard time writing this because I was over the moon about the prior Jewel E Ann book and thinking about that in the same sphere as this seems unfathomable. Yet, here we are. She’d carve herself even deeper into me than she already is and then what?' -- Knox McNichols There are a couple of questions that I have related to Dakota that I feel aren't fully answered, but it's nothing that impacts my enjoyment of the overall story. Of course, now that I write this, I suddenly feel invested in the answers. Maybe they're in there, but I missed them. (This sounds like an excellent excuse to listen again. Not that I need one.) I nearly forgot to mention Evelyn & Hugh. I love where this little side project that has pieces woven into every book in the series is going.
