More self portraiture, far from my studio. This free-ing-ness is really letting me explore. I think I'm finding a very entertaining approach to slow painting. Solving a process block I've had for a very long time. How might I apply this in my other work?

Travelling, which is both freeing and limiting in terms of painting. Self portraiture variations. Oil on paper
And done, though I need to come up with a title. Slowly moving my process towards slower painting, and I'm enjoying it. Oil on paper, 12x16. Much thanks to @halloweensounds.bsky.social for the inspiration. (accidental delete, whoops. bsky gives us undelete)
Process post, again. I'm prepping for tomorrow's painting session by applying thin coloured glazes to the existing painting. These will still be wet tomorrow, and I'll paint into them, but they adjust the whole colour palette and add depth to the result. Part of why painting takes forever.
Between my circular, unfocused approach to "what do I paint today" and how long these specifically take, it's going to be a billion years before I get through all 9. declaring this one done. Tho, sitting here looking at the image, I can see things I want to fix. oil on patinated copper, 8x10
And yes we share this one here as well. From a zoom session this morning. Oil on linen
Some totally banal, run of the mill life drawing practice with a local group.
One painting closes in on its conclusion, while the next begins to rough itself into shape. Two paintings on the easel, the next a revisit of a sketch from last week.
Interested in a process post? I'm working through the drawing and light shapes for a new piece that is eating my brain. I've been interested in graffiti backgrounds for a while, so let's do it. Not sure it will 'read', but this is how you learn. 12x16, oil on paper.
Throwback! Was digging through old sketchbooks and stumbled on this from 2020 -- back when I actually drew regularly. Theme's still on point: businessmen on their knees, struggling with large... "Problems" . I had so much patience back then. Can't sit still long enough now
"No need to rush, we've got all night", oil on paper, 7x9". Getting into the grove of painting. Brushes doing what I want them to do. Now to lock in and practice practice practice
Having more time means not having to rush my paintings anymore. I can do studies and experiments and not be concerned they're taking time from main works. Study of R, oil on paper
Today's work in progress. 8x10, oil on patinated copper. Much left to do, but later.
Yeah. We'll share this here. @jimmymuldo on insta. Oil on paper. ~40min pose
Yes, surfing bluesky and tumblr for dick picks is absolutely research for art projects. My prior posted painting is absolutely proof of this. This is all a very humble and noble pursuit. I need to, ah, understand the diversity and variety of the subject matter.
WIP, as always. Only the first paint layer. Experimental process: oil on distressed copper. If this works, then it is the first in a series of 'portraits'. Photo contributed by one of my models
Life drawing w/ @tiddiesdeloser.bsky.social and Eros Edges. 5,20,15 minute poses. Oil on paper
Work in progress. This has been a beast of a painting to work on. Pushing myself out of my usual small works, thinking about space and interiority. So many drawing corrections (and more to go). But I'm loving where it's going. Oil on linen, 91.5x61cm
Think this one is done now. I'll sit with it for a week or two and see if future me agrees. 12x16, oil on linen. Starting July I'll have much more time to paint: resigned at long last.
Continuing on this one today. Still a ways to go
Variations on a theme? Work in progress to go with the orange sweater. Long way yet. I wonder how many of these I can sustain
Online life painting with Toby. 30 minutes, oil on paper.
Orange Sweater. 16x12. Oil on linen. With much thanks to @2fingersinabox.bsky.social for the inspiration
Two colour practice. Blue/orange only (+white). Not bad for 30 mins. Some things need fixing, but that is for the second attempt
More idle doodling as I kill time. Somewhere between scribbles and something worth finishing. should be a painting instead. There is an idea here, I think.
On the train to visit family. Long hours of nothing but a sketchbook and music to keep me company. Time to explore ideas
I was supposed to be doing other things. But here we are. This feels like it could be a larger piece at some point.
Perhaps this would be of interest. A much larger composition that I'm slowly picking away at. "Another Theseus. Today. Again". I've been enjoying building up the layers of the 'flat' walls and exploring visual slight of hand. This is what I get up to when not madly sketching models
