Train Driver & Birder

After months of 'are we or aren't we moving'... Found home in a quieter setting. Garden bird list steadily growing. On a flightpath from the Ouse Washes to a local private nature reserve. Had a lone Barnacle Goose over. In another month I should see Whooper Swan's arriving 🙂

Grafham Water looking low,but it seems the Waders aren't bothered.A nice small mix with a Little Stint thrown in.But best of all was getting an alert for Black Tern at the otherside. It 'terns' out there were 14 Juvenilie dancing above the water. An absolute joy to watch 🙂 @cambsbirdclub.bsky.social

Thought i would have a peek at the Florence- Rome Direttissima line nearby, opened in 1977! Route speed is 250kmh. An ETR 1000 here almost as quick as a Turbostar!

I've been in Italy (Tuscany) almost a week. Birding initially not easy but found a few brilliant spots. A Lifer this evening which I initially thought was very rare.. A Sacred Ibis went into roost with Great Egrets! Turns out there are almost 10k of Sacred Ibis in the country..

Parked up at West Acre. Cycled upto Holme Observatory as the Icterine Warbler which was ringed in the morning was seen again.. Of course I didn't see it but a fantastic 50 mile ride 🙂

Lot's of fledged Bird's about this afternoon at RSPB Ouse Fen. Sedge and Reed Warbler's and these Bearded Tits! A female Black Necked Grebe made a brief appearance in the reeds...

Dodged the bombsite that is Black Cat roundabout and an intense battle through tonnes of roundabouts at Milton Keynes.. I made it to the Long Tailed Shrike site...Thoroughly deserved those impressive close views! Shrike species number 9 for UK ✅️
