#30DayMapChallenge Day 5. Sight. I'm submitting it but it isn't done. Need to get some sleep. Pre and post bombing imagery (blue and yellow). The sight comes in with GCPs that I used to align the images. You can also modern base imagery through it all. Seeing through decades and left over scars.

#30DayMapChallenge Got to repurpose some code from a class:) Python, Photoshop, and Illustrator tools. #Clusters
I honestly had no idea what to do for polygons. I ended up with air photos being the topic of the night. Image segmentation of the bomb damage from a black and white photo from 1943 and abstraction (Claude) to #polygons that represent the types of objects and their qualities. #30dayMapChallenge

So many students lined up to vote today. Great job Illini!
#30daymapchallenge - day 1 points. Creating videos of each creation this month. No edits, so students can see just how much time it takes. There's a lot more that could be cleaned up but.. (Also happy for location notes from people with better historical knowledge of this!)
Would be really great if we resisted elevating tech journalist bros as AI ethicists.
I'm headed to see the kiddo next weekend and I have an appointment to see my favorite professor from undergrad. So excited!
Despite being 1500 miles away from each other Kiddo and I have a really tight bond and Zoom almost every night. I always learn something new about him. Tonight he was lifting weights while telling me about The Jakarta Method book and some muffins he's going to bake tomorrow. He makes me so proud.
Big Penny lives. One of our local weather people decided to be the famous bridge for Halloween 🎃

Does anyone familiar with 1990s country remember what song has "distaff partner"? I swore it was Mary Chapin Carpenter and Down to the Twist and Shout but I'm only finding a "two step partner" for that song. I know teenage me didn't randomly make up "distaff partner."
Anyone else not seem to be able to shake the sore throat, burning chest and headache going around? It has to be allergies at this point.

Related: I’m still looking for leads and help on jobs, fellowships, and freelance contracts on drones, GIS, aid, disaster, OSINT, tech ethics, and journalism. I simply will not work for evil people and/or weapons manufacturers, which is also why I haven’t had paying work since Trump 2.0 began.
Drone tech has so many incredible applications for so many industries and if you want to make any sort of living you have to work for an illiterate Nazi pervert dweeb who collects erotic anime figurines.
On Nov 5th (7pm), I'll be chatting about cartography with my former Hopkins professor, Cassie Hansen. The GIS After Dark series is free to the public; however, you need to register to attend. #gischat #cartography advanced.jhu.edu/event/gis-af...

Michigan State University is dissolving their printmaking program at the end of the year and releasing the professor Edson Rojas. Students are upset, as they should be. They're expected to just change concentrations after investing so much time and money on their education and passion. 😡
Best way to start one's birthday? Vote early for Abdul el-Sayed. Now off for bday shenanigans with the family 😊
We haven't had a new music post in awhile. iPhone killed the mo3. Honstav Check out this video, "honestav" share.google/6QTfyk5Z06UB...

Woke up with a headache and sore throat this morning. But I get to lay on a pile of dogs and watch the plants grow.
#NACIS2026 If you have not had breakfast across the street at George Webb, I highly suggest the French Toast. Very reasonable prices, too. I'm looking at you students;)
NACIS night out? no. NACIS night in? no. NACIS night productive? Maybe. Need to trim her tail down a bit face and beef up her upper body then she is ready for Nick's desk. #NACIS2026 #TrustTheProcess

Companies like Anthropic and OpenAI are under scrutiny for copyright and human rights violations, unjust labor practices, unsustainable energy and water use, and the deployment of AI hacking systems. Can an academic use such a tool without breaching the Transparency and Responsibility principles?
