Week SIX of ECO Camp was full of wildlife and discovery! Campers learned with Moccasin Identifier, explored birds and birdwatching, discovered the world of bees, hiked Ancient Woods, met raptors from Wild Ontario and wrapped up the week with newly hatched baby turtles.
This weekend’s BioBlitz gave us even more to celebrate! We were joined by MPP Brian Riddell to recognize an $89,700 Ontario Trillium Foundation Seed Grant supporting new opportunities for community members to get hands-on with conservation at rare.
Earlier this summer, our team collected at-risk turtle nests to give the eggs a safer place to incubate. Now, those tiny turtles are beginning to hatch! These little turtles have a big adventure ahead of them, and we’re so happy to see them take their first steps (and swims!) into the wild.

Over two days, rare was filled with curiosity and connection as artists, scientists, naturalists and community members came together to explore the many ways art and science help us better understand the world around us.
Week 3 at ECO Camp was full of discoveries!. Campers spent the week catching and identifying butterflies, exploring the hidden world of benthic macroinvertebrates, hiking the trails, getting their hands dirty in the gardens at Springbank Farm Hub and meeting some incredible birds of prey up close.
I spy a little Green Frog "Lithobates clamitans"! Sometimes, the best trail companions are the ones you almost miss. Have a wonderful weekend and be sure to keep an eye out for some of nature's most special pals.
