Bird watcher and word botcher. Boring on purpose. Data engineer, birder, gardener, stained glass artist. Solo dev of Witchhazel Woods on Steam. Crohn's patient with deep interest in healthcare policy due to my dependence on Very Expensive medications.

I had to code and pronounce a time of death on a respiratory therapist colleague. There's a memorial plaque for her outside the emergency department to this day. I wrote and re-wrote my will. I will never forgive these ghouls trying to rewrite history and deny our experience.

RFK Jr said these words today on national television "There were ICUs that were empty all over the country including in New York at the height (of the pandemic)" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are a fucking idiot hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha <sobs silently>

I am so proud, Matt has decided he's sufficiently into birding now that he wanted his own pair of bins for his birthday. So we are now a two binocular household 🥹

Some garden pics from today. The milkweed is so off-kilter this year - normally it would bloom in June and be done by now, but it didn't even emerge from the ground until mid-June this year. The joe pye is just starting to bloom and the bumblebees are very happy about it.

At work this week I sunk an enormous amount of time into investigating and trying to solve a very hard problem Reader At the end of the day today I found a 1 year old PR, authored by me, targeted at fixing this exact problem, which was opened, reviewed, approved, and never merged 🤦‍♀️

If I got the diarrhea parasite it would be very very bad because not only would it synergize terribly with my Crohn's but also I am allergic to the only treatment for it (sulfa antibiotics). Also, immunocompromised. Guess I will just not eat produce for awhile????

Got my lifer red-headed woodpeckers yesterday 🥳 they are uncommon here in MA. There's a weird melancholy though in knowing that I'll never get a lifer woodpecker again without traveling!

A woodpecker with blocky black, white, and red coloring is perched on a gnarled branch.

Worked on my stained glass piece for a bit today and gave myself a cut on the webbing between my thumb and pointer finger 😖 (Not a bad cut! I am fine. It's just gross.)

The first of my monarda plants has started blooming and the tiny native bees are enjoying it. I've taken down the hummingbird feeder as an experiment to see if they'll switch to the flowers. We shall see.

A bright pink monarda bloom with some sort of itty bitty bee and a shiny green bicolored sweat bee perched on it.
