Today's math: 3 km beach walk >> writing a 3,000-word blog I mean, the blog topic was cool and everything, but writing on a deadline doesn't fill the cup as much as walking beside the sun & water.

When you switch between work writing and fiction writing as a Canadian 🇨🇦
Wow, Strange New Worlds — never seen a #StarTrek episode like this before and it was so well done. Hopefully we get to see the fate of the Griffin in the future.
Writing at a coffee shop without WiFi makes it really difficult to research the important things. Like "how do different cultures cut fruit" or "how to spell wierd"

Welcome! This week's chat is about unusual interests that feed our freelancing. Although we don’t want to monetize every hobby, we acquire skills in our outside-of-work interests that translate well into our freelance work. 1/ #FreelanceFriends
Even with a $1M salary offer, tell me you don't understand marketing without telling me you don't understand marketing (and who you're marketing to — people) www.thestateofbrand.com/news/clickup...
The 100x CMO Job Is Here. ClickUp Is Paying Up to $1M for One Person to Be the Entire Marketing Department.
The Fortune 500 spent the year deleting the CMO title. ClickUp just reinstated it as a job for exactly one human, reporting to the CEO, with 3,000 agents underneath and no team at all.

TIL that Google tracks when I work on different documents. Likely where too. 👀

Listening to these author readings at @canadafictionfest.bsky.social; realizing I have no idea how to read books to adults 🫠 These authors are great, though!

Reminder to not only back up your work, but *test out your recovery process too.* I migrated laptops yesterday and everything was fine until I started writing. Finished a new chapter before finding all previous chapters in Scrivener were blank. Zero words. WHAT. PANIC. SEARCH. #IndieAuthor
This week on the #FreelanceFriends chat on Bluesky, we're talking about billing our clients: what software we like, what terms we use and how the process flows! Stay tuned for updates!

Today in freelancing: Sent a late payment reminder to the wrong client while also misspelling "OVEDUE." #FreelanceFriends
I'm not a fan of star-review rating systems, as the numbers mean different things to different people, too little nuance, are too easy to review-bomb, etc. Just wondering, though: is there a generally accepted practice for rating books? #BookSky
Didn't intend to write today, but thanks to the rain, got 338 words in! #AmWriting
Brain: Here's an amazing idea you'll forget in about 13 seconds Me: Frantically pokes around apps, looking for the right notetaker: Keep, Notes, TextEdit, Google Docs, GMail... My desk: *four Post-It pads & a journal waiting for an epiphany*
Hello, #FreelanceFriends! This month, we've been chatting about software, apps/tools & hardware for our computers. Now, let's look at what's on our desks. I have to admit—I love fun pens and highlighters! Let's chat about non-tech office supplies! Mark your calendar: 11am CST, May 28 on Bluesky

1,552 words today and a realization: I spend a *lot* of time going back to fix things. Like names that changed over chapters and character tics that revealed themselves over time. Feels like keeping things consistent is a good use of time, even if the daily word count struggles. #AmWriting
1,372 words written today. Well below the goal, but I figured out a way through some complex plot mechanics that should make writing the next chapter so much easier. Also fried some peanuts because apparently, not writing counts as writing. #AmWriting
2,092 words today — a few hundred short of the goal, but figured out: - How to move the plot forward - Aspects of characters that I didn't know - A new location to add depth to the world So I'll take that as an #AmWriting win.
Took the week off from client work to focus on my magical heist story. Goal: 10,000 words Challenge: Work through plot logistics, dialogue, and the grand finale without blowing up the outline. Wish me luck! #AmWriting
