Jodi Picoult saying "okay florida i see you" but not talking about the fact that the FL BOE can just tweet at superintendents to tell them to ban her books now, the way they just did to my superintendent about Trans Mission by Alex Bertie is telling me that no one is actually seeing Florida at all.

Pasco county library system voted unanimously to keep Jacob's Missing Book by Ian Hoffman and Sarah Hoffman in the ADULT NON FICTION section today rather than move it to the children's section where it belongs. The meeting was ridiculous and disgusting.

The Commissioner posted this “proof” without evidence that it was from a student profile within a FL school district’s account. These are reading lists from a public library’s account without access to read the books in app. Each account can develop unique reading challenges for their users.

In that letter, he mentioned an incident of misuse. Upon further investigation, we determined that the event he referenced did not involve any school district's Beanstack account. We believe that all Florida districts and charter schools are using our platform in accordance with applicable state regulations and do not provide access to materials that are not age- or developmentally-appropriate for students. Our personal opinions aside, we do not make policy recommendations to any of our government clients. Instead, we respectfully leave that duty to elected officials and their constituents. This is an attempt from the state to deny access to a wonderful platform used by districts to comply with the state’s classroom library transparency rules and encourage reading. Why? Because they signed a $15.6M contract with TEG to create an unnecessary statewide transparency tool.

Letter from Florida Ed Commissioner putting districts “on notice” for using Beanstack to meet the classroom library catalog requirements. The letter alleges that the platform “provides access to material that is not age or developmentally appropriate” though the platform does not offer access to read materials at all. Beanstack provides a thumbnail image and description of the materials available in a particular school, grade, or classroom collection, offers ways to encourage reading and test comprehension, and expands reading initiatives into the community.

"They're not banning books they're removing explicit books from public schools" then whats this? Bc the public libraries in Hernando county are being changed by a small group who want to remove what they don't like, calling it "woke". That's not about public schools OR explicit content. #bookbans

Book banners: i only challenge books because all the books are porn! Also book banners: this middle grade book is inappropriate for kids in part because it mentions menstrual cramps

Books with Black/brown characters and LGBTQ+ characters are getting banned because banning books is the first step towards banning people. Contact your local library and school board and tell them you support the freedom to read, for everyone.

🧵 The dog days of summer may be unavoidable. Dog books? For some readers, they're getting harder to find. Turns out the book banners who told you their only concern was "pornography" are also trying to restrict many students' right to read about... dogs.
