The person I just followed on 250 from Charlottesville to Crozet who was driving between 36 mph and 43 mph was unintentionally making a solid argument for public transport.

Motorists admitting that solid, controlling design causes them to slow down, pay attention, and operate their cars in a safe manner or they'll suffer the consequences. See, they're pointing out that it works.

Meeting wraps up. Heard productive and interesting things; still think this was a clunky format for engagement. My takeaway: flood the comments with calls for a shared use path/protected bike lane. It's doable, possible, and still a needle that can be moved.

Reiterates public comment opportunities + needs - due on Aug 21. Shunts questions and comments to the boards...but some folks ask for some group questions. Pushback from the county + kimley horn folks- the meeting was not intended for group q&a. (Which....come on). The room is testy.

Now seated for the Eastern Ave presentation/meeting at the Meadows. Very crowded already! Right now people are just circulating looking at maps - presentations begin at 6.

My short thesis for a better Eastern Ave design: Make the road safe enough that a kid will feel safe riding their bicycle to see a friend, and a parent will feel reasonably confident & comfortable sending their kids to ride bikes to see friends, go to Crozet Park, ride to school, or get ice cream

It’s actually too bad most local media outlets think routine meeting coverage is boring because you could have answers to things like this! In Charlottesville and Albemarle, the school boards discuss and vote on calendars, usually annually, at their meetings that no reporters attend nowadays.
