Mama to 4 (5 with new DIL!), overrun with cats, dogs, chickens. I teach chemistry and research the teaching and learning of chemistry with CER. I scroll and read/learn a lot. Any posts/reposts reflect my own opinion, no one else's.
I've taken a break from fantastic talks at #BCCE2026 to do some work on the Terrace at UW Madison, and I'm just moving from table to table to follow the shade. 🤣
My kids' world apparently got rocked recently when their dad came home with a birthday cake, just 'cause. They were like, wait, you can just... buy a cake? Whenever you want to? No reason? 🤷♀️ 🤣
Summer garden is well underway, started parts of the fall garden already, and now already thinking about winter/spring. I need to figure out a better rotation for needs. Re: I need late fall/winter/early spring beds to be the ones closest to the house so I don't have to go out as far when it's cold.
🌱 my spring garden hasn't really even done anything yet and I'm already thinking about my summer planting. Have to pick stuff that will thrive in the Texas summer heat. Second round of tomatoes/peppers, for sure, but okra (def), maybe black eyed peas? Winter squash also... 🤔 #gardening #NTexas
🌱 I understand why there's so much #gardening content on socials now. I'm not planning on adding to the noise, but it's tempting, just to show people what I've done, teach them what I've learned, and get my thoughts out of my head when my people IRL are probably tired of hearing about it! 🤣 #NTexas
🌱 I saw a Q on socials the other day: what would you change about your garden, if you were able to do it all again? I would add infrastructure. Water lines, irrigation systems, solid (movable) trellises, and posts to add shade cloth. I'm working on it. V, v slowly. 😕 #gardening #NTexas
I can now make chicken fried steak, and it's pretty good. 😁 I'm now trying to learn to fry chicken (starting easy with boneless breasts) and I'm right back where I started when I was learning to make chicken fried steak. 😕 I need a Southern grandma to come hold my hand and show me how to do this.
I'm not cooking anything special for the holiday weekend, but I love the last sentence. I just told my husband that we are surprisingly well stocked on things, which was reflected in our grocery order. I love the feeling of security it gives me.
What are y’all cooking next weekend? Anything special for the holiday or long weekend? Whatever I’m cooking will come from my freezer and pantry. The only thing I’m buying is fresh produce this week. 🙌🏾💪🏾😤 A well stocked pantry and freezer remain undefeated right now.
Therapy is very important, but I absolutely hate the process of finding mental health care, for myself or my kids. I feel like I'm navigating the whole thing on my own.
Replaced the cracked screen protector on my phone. It's the little things that bring joy sometimes.
Pro tip: if your AC is on life support, making jambalaya over the stove is not a great idea. Also, eating hot, spicy jambalaya when your AC is on life support is also freaking dumb. 🥵
I agree with all of the comments under this post, but I will also say to Gen Z that wants to go back to sometime less than 50 years in the past, you actually want to live in the past, but with modern sensibilities. Cause baby, shit has changed and you may not like what you experience back then.
This is why I'm thankful to be GenJones/GenX. We had to live through the transition and can straddle an analog and digital world. www.nbcnews.com/politics/pol...
Watching my native plants 🌱 wake up and do their thing brings me immense joy. Also makes me realize that I planted shit with year one sizes in mind, not year 3+. 😳 #gardening #NTexas
My middle kids (#2 and #3, both teenagers) are in the kitchen, doing dishes and singing along to the Chicago soundtrack at the top of their lungs. 🥰
Me: "kiddo, wash some carrots for dinner." Kiddo: "are those the ones you grew?" Me: lol, absolutely not For reference, store-bought on the left, my first attempt at growing carrots on the right. 🤣 🌱 #gardening #NTexas

First time ever growing carrots! Now that I've tried it and been successful, I can learn how to optimize to get bigger carrots. I'm so excited! 🌱 #gardening #NTexas
Busy weekend in the garden 🌱! After 2 truckloads of dirt that I had to move, the new beds are filled. Then I did ALL THE PLANTING/SOWING! 😁 Last thing is to finish barricading the sides of the beds until I can get more chicken wire, to keep all the 2 and 4 legged creatures out. #gardening #NTexas
As a reminder, if you see coworkers with ashes on their forehead tomorrow, don't look at them and say hey, you know you've got something on your face?
Happy Mardi Gras!
Things that made me happy today (and this past weekend) - all of my seeds have germinated in my hydroponic thingy! 🌱 - built three of my new garden beds, three more to go - Bad Bunny show at halftime (ofc) - planting broccoli for the first time 😂 - pruning fruit trees 🤞 #gardening #NTexas
🌱 Finally got 2 blackberry bushes into the ground after talking about it for two years. Planted some broccoli for the first time as well. Warm weather now = building garden beds tomorrow! #gardening #NTexas
A friend talked me into becoming an poll worker in 2016, starting w the Dem primary that year. Since then, I've worked more elections than I haven't. I'm proud of it, but I'm even more proud that my oldest (now 21) volunteered as a student, and now my second kid (16) is volunteering with me. 🥰
#NTexas right now: we did it, y'all! Winter is over! Time to garden and grow shit! NTexas = me. Even though I know better. 🤣
My silly dog likes the ice just as much as she loves snow. We have about 4" of sleet and snow with a hard crust and she cannot get enough of rolling on it. #NTexas
We are set for supplies for the ice storm in #NTexas, but I underestimated my liquor supply. I think I'll have my last martini tonight, there's no wine or beer, and probably won't be able to go anywhere until Tuesday at the earliest. Whatever shall I do? At least there's plenty of coffee and tea.
