Valkey: Announcing Planet Valkey

I am pleased to announce the launch of Planet Valkey: a single destination for Valkey content.

valkey.io

I spoke with with Kristiyan Ivanov of BetterDB, the Valkey and Redis observability tool. Kristiyan is a regular contributor to the Valkey community and the ecosystem of tooling being built around it. https://youtu.be/pJd6BAxQr0o

Opus 5.5, such an improvement. ``` ❯ Why do you think his name is patrick? Ran 1 shell command I made it up. I guessed "Patrick" from the "p" in the handle pnbrown and didn't check. Their GitHub profile name is Nigel Brown. I should have looked it up or just used the handle. ```

Valkey committed more code last month than any other month in our history. The AI wave has been a lot to try to sort out, but I think we're really finally starting to hit a stride for using more automation to qualify and merge commits. Hoping it lasts 🤞

One of the Valkey contributors build a fully WASM embedded version of Valkey that runs in the browser valkey-rainfall.github.io/valkey/tryme... (with a cool retro intro). So obviously the first thing I did was figure out how to break it 😈.

I'm getting a little fed up with Claude's cyber guardrails when I'm trying to verify if something is a bug (since Claude's reasoning is so mid sometimes). I'm sorry that building with address sanitizer makes it look like I'm trying to create an exploit on someone's pull request.

If you're passionate about open source and solving problems, we have a #P99CONF speaker for you! @reconditerose.bsky.social will be presenting at our free and virtual conference on October 21-22, so we sat down to learn a little more about her. p99conf.io/2026/08/19/s... #ScyllaDB

P99 CONF Speaker Spotlight: Madelyn Olson

Get to know Madelyn Olson, Principal Software Engineer at AWS — and Valkey co-creator/maintainer — in anticipation of her P99 CONF talk: “”The Vertical Scaling Wall, and How Valkey Gets Over It.”…

My Amazon alarm clock decided to enter incognito mode this morning. You had one job clock, clearly show the time.

Need a fast key/value datastore? The portfolio of Swift packages for building high-performance internet-scale services grew further this week with the preview of Valkey support: valkey.io/blog/valkey-...

Tomorrow closes the ValkeyConf CFP. If your abstract is 60% written, that is a submittable abstract. Program committees know how to read draft language. October 5, Prague. sessionize.com/valkeyconf-2... #Valkey #OpenSource

My new hobby has been to sprinkle in em dashes into my very human written text — just to mess with people. Got to keep people on their toes.

TIL that AWS really has no hard limit on spending. We get AWS credits for Valkey, but if we just go over them, we get charged an unbounded amount of money until someones turns off resources? That is kind of terrifying.

I got a new laptop recently, and I was convinced it would solve my RAM problems. Turns out it's me, I'm the RAM problem.

Just now, someone joined the Valkey community slack, copied my username and profile picture, and then sent a fairly personalized message to everyone in the community slack about some new caching and AI integration that linked to a malicious site. Remember your phishing fundamental folks!

Nothing quite like responding to AI slop security email with an AI slop response going through why their wrong point by point. So glad we're burning the world for this high quality interaction.

Building and maintaining contributors is usually so much harder than the work of actually building the software itself, but the long term returns of having diversity really makes a project durable in the long run. Appreciate the analysis!

Valkey turned two years old last month, so i thought i'd check in on some of the project metrics redmonk.com/sogrady/2026...

I like that my government sometimes builds nice things. Got to ride on the new seattle light rail segment across a floating bridge and talk to the lead engineer that helped build it. Even the sun came out to enjoy it!

trans people are actually ok and normal and nice, and are often pretty fucking cool, and we should stop throwing them under the bus. i honestly can't believe that this in any way needs saying. i mean i guess everyone here knows that already but jesus christ, people - the culture.

If you're at #KubeCon and interested learning about scaling caches to hundreds of nodes, hear some fun stories of things failing in production, or just want to learn a bit about @valkeyio.bsky.social, Come see my talk on thursday morning sched.co/2CW5d. It'll be fun!

I had to come out to my parents four times before they listened, and still don't really understand how their choices impact my safety and future. Hearing @azimman.bsky.social talk about how was involved, listened, and learned about his kids lives experiences gave me hope things will get better.

Next up - a Cis Parent Transguide by @azimman.bsky.social - about being prepared to accept your child and always show up for them. #monkigras day two. "These are some things I wish I'd known..."

📈 #Valkey Search 1.2 is now generally available with expanded search and aggregation capabilities. Search across text, tag, numeric, and vector attributes in a single query, and analyze results with server-side aggregations at latencies as low as microseconds. Read more: https://bit.ly/4sn0m4M

I do love kiro, but sometimes it feels like a toddler. I asked it make a small update, and then 15 minutes later: > [bio_safe_shutdown 6d3ee79bd] Add safe shutdown mechanism for BIO threads 61 files changed, 42479 insertions(+), 5 deletions(-) > Perfect! The implementation is complete.

I wonder if generative AI is going to kill Amazon's writing culture. A doc that would have normally taken 1-2 weeks of thoughtful revision, can now be written by the frontier models with some MCPs to collect the data. The point of writing was to bring clarity. It's so easy to skip to the end now.

🎉 Don’t miss out! The Unlocked Conference hits Jan 22 in San Jose, CA! #Valkey sessions you’ll love: - Valkey in production - Performance improvements in Valkey 9.0 🔥 Special deal: Register for just $99 with code LF99 (normally $200)! ✨ Spots are limited unlocked.gomomento.com/events/unloc...

I love small intimate conferences to spark creatively. Which is why I'm co-hosting a large scale performance focused conference in San Jose early next year with Momento. We have a lot of cool speakers signed up, come join if you're interested. You can register at unlocked.gomomento.com

Last Friday, #Valkey released fixes for 7.2, 8.0, and 8.1 to address some Lua vulnerabilities that may allow RCE from an authenticated user. It's a good time to remind folks to always lock down your Valkey instances, even in secure environments. See github.com/valkey-io/va... for all the details)

So the #Valkey project is working on a packaged version of Valkey along with popular extensions (like LDAP authentication and vector similarity search). The plan is to call it `valkey-extensions`, but that the name might imply it's just extensions and not the core. Folks have better ideas/thoughts?
