DM Tip: Be careful creating big places to explore. They're awesome, but the more areas there are, the more time is spent where you're just describing things while your players sit around listening. They have their place, but use consciously and keep your descriptions short and sweet. #dnd #ttrpg

Last night my party learned that a unicorn lived in a nearby forest and their first reaction was to wonder if it's blood might have any beneficial magical properties. I'm pretty sure you could actually hear their alignment shifting. #dnd #ttrpg

DM Tip: Curses are more fun when they slowly reveal themselves over time, instead of the instant the player attunes to them. Even better, have the curse grant some benefits that would be lost if the curse was removed, so your player can grapple with whether or not it should be cured! #dnd #ttrpg

My party just spend two hours fighting a man who they had been told (for months) could literally not be killed. The bard, about an hour in, after hitting them with yet another damaging spell: "Wait wait wait. Hold on. This might not work." They tied him up and dropped him down a chute. #dnd #ttrpg

DM Tip: Give your magic items cooler attunement requirements! This can range from small stuff (attune to this cap of water breathing while floating in the water) to whole mini-quests (attune to this sword by using it to kill a fiend). #dnd #ttrpg

Not having much time to dedicate to working on something + writer's block is a brutal combination. Especially when you throw in a voice in the back of your head that yells "No, weirder! Make it WEIRDER!" every time you think you've settled on an idea.

The Redcap Press website just hit 10,000 active users in one month for the first time! Does that really matter? No! Is the definition of a "User" here so flawed as to be effectively meaningless? Yes! Still, it's fun to see people getting some use out of the site! ♥️ www.redcap.press #dnd #ttrpg

DM Tip: Powerful NPCs can be fun and excite or intimidate the players, but be ready for them to ask "Wait, why aren't they helping? Couldn't they just disintegrate everybody?" If it becomes too much of a problem, you can always have an even stronger bad guy disintegrate them first. #dnd #ttrpg

Excited for the Appendix N game jam this year! Just need to figure out what to do with "Tutor of the Ifrit's Art" 👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹👹

Our Artificer showed up to last night's session with a full PowerPoint presentation (displayed via Discord in real life and Minor Illusion in-game) to convince a Drow empress to let him build her a robotic arm. I've never handed out inspiration more confidently in my life. #dnd #ttrpg

In the process of ordering yet another proof for the physical version of our Die Hard-inspired D&D adventure, decided to mess around in Gimp to make a new image for the back cover. It's okay if the back of your adventure looks cooler than the front, right? Right?? #dnd #ttrpg

A large tower in the middle of a burning city

Small update for anybody that's downloaded our "One Shot to Die Hard" adventure: - We've updated the listing to include maps with the labels removed, that you can print or show your players. - We've also added a printable "plot checklist" to avoid flipping back and forth at the table. Have fun!

The text "One Shot to Die Hard" over a tower with an explosion bursting out of the side. The silhouette of a man falls from the explosion.

DM Tip: Look ahead to see what your players get at the next few levels. You don't want to be surprised after spending hours on a dungeon that one of your players just unlocked a "bypass this dungeon" ability. #dnd #ttrpg

Players, if you want to make your GM happy, just remember some obscure bit of lore that they mentioned months ago. Nothing feels quite as good as tangible proof you're engaged!
