Restoration of deep-sea habitats to rebuild european seas https://redress-project.eu/
The Work Package 5 team recently met to plan the upcoming release of the new deliverable regarding the comparative analysis of passive and active Deep-Sea Restoration Governance Arrangements (DSRGAs). #OceanGovernance #DeepSeaRestoration #MarineConservation #REDRESSProject
Welcome back to #DivingWithREDRESS! Ecological restoration helps damaged native ecosystems recover. REDRESS pioneers deep-sea restoration with 3D-printed eco-reefs, deployed from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean to support natural cold-water coral settlement and growth. #EUProjects #restoration
During RRS Discovery Expedition 210, the @noc.ac.uk team revisited structures deployed in The Canyons MCZ in 2025 to assess their early interaction with the deep sea. redress-project.eu/research-cru... #restoration #deepsea #research #monitoring #EUprojects
Welcome to Diving with REDRESS! Today we explore Desmophyllum pertusum, a cold-water coral living 200–1,000 m deep. Slow-growing and vulnerable to trawling, it builds complex habitats that support deep-sea biodiversity and restoration. #REDRESSProject #DeepSea #OceanRestoration
In the Bratten Marine Protected Area in the Skagerrak, REDRESS is testing what happens when damaging pressure is removed and soft-bottom #habitats are allowed to recover naturally? Read more about it redress-project.eu/research-cru... @geomarkiel.bsky.social
🌊 REDRESS at the Valentia LIFE Platform Meeting! Our team contributed to discussions on best practices and innovation in marine restoration under the Nature Restoration Regulation. 👏 Great collaboration and knowledge exchange across Europe! #MarineRestoration #REDRESS #OceanConservation
Today is #WorldOceanDay, a UN-recognized day that highlights the need to protect and restore our oceans. We support this mission by advancing knowledge and solutions for deep-sea habitat restoration, helping safeguard biodiversity, climate regulation, and ocean health for future generations.

We’re very proud of our early-career researchers (PhDs & postdocs) who presented their work at the REDRESS Annual Meeting in Barcelona, highlighting the important role they play in the success of the project! @horizoneu.bsky.social
The Consortium has gathered for the second Annual Meeting! Since yesterday, partners of the project will review the progress made so far and continue working together on the next steps. A sincere thank you to @icmcsic.bsky.social for their hospitality in Barcelona! @horizoneu.bsky.social
@icmcsic.bsky.social team has deployed aquarium-grown sponge fragments into fishery no-take zones to help restore human-impacted deep-sea soft-sediment habitats. Monitored with a @niozsearesearch.bsky.social lander, we’ll track survival, growth, and biodiversity!
Our partner Jacopo Aguzzi represented us at the “In Defense of Biodiversity” conference in Madrid, strengthening Italy–Spain collaboration for ecosystem protection and sustainable innovation. 🌍 More info: www.giornalediplomatico.it/spagna-confe... @ec.europa.eu @horizoneu.bsky.social
Ecoreefs successfully deployed at The Canyons Marine Conservation Zone! The National Oceanography Centre REDRESS team precisely deployed 15 ecoreefs to encourage cold-water growth in a restoration experiment on #coral ‘mini-mounds’ within The Canyons Marine Conservation Zone, south-west of the UK.
Last Friday, REDRESS took part in the Sharper Night in Ancona, Italy! Students and #researchers came together to share their work through videos, and fun interactive games for children. It was a great opportunity to bring science closer to the community and showcase the progress of our research! 🐠
Another week, another activity! We are collecting organisms for ex-situ propagation! Our goal is to identify the best methodologies and conditions to support the propagation of some species and future restoration of depleted habitats 👏🐙 #HorizoneEurope #restoration #deepsea #species @ec.europa.eu
A campaign to study deep-sea habitats has started onboard of the R/V Gaia Blu. One key task of the REDRESS Project is to retrieve plates deployed last year to study how organisms settle & grow! 🪸😍
At #ICESASC25 (Sept 15–18, Klaipeda Univ, 🇱🇹), marine scientists meet to shape the future of ocean research. 🌊 Nadia Papadopoulou & Chris Smith (HCMR) present #SERE & #REDRESS, highlighting #marine #ecosystem #restoration and deep-sea innovation. @horizoneu.bsky.social @ec.europa.eu
