Experts are warning that more than 500,000 Ohioans are poised to lose insurance subsidies starting next year. In many cases, the increased costs they’ll face will be so big that more than 100,000 will lose their coverage, they warn ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/08/18/h...

Huge numbers of Ohioans to see big increases in insurance costs • Ohio Capital Journal

A federal program is about to expire that could cost more than 100,000 Ohioans health insurance. The state's U.S. senators won't comment.

The Ohio Democratic Party was so awful to our longtime, local organizing group. It was so disrespectful and demoralizing. We had hundreds of volunteers, registered thousands of voters and got no statewide help and zero campaign materials despite trying over and over.

One thing, I've seen some discourse, and yes. I have no patience for the national DNC shill orgs that ran the national campaigns either... but downstream, on the ground, locals, volunteers that did the actual organizing we need to care about them. They're real people, and they have potential

Columbus Pride was today, so our No Kings event was part protest and one part massive celebration. Columbus Pride always shows the loving heart and joyous soul of Columbus. They underestimate how much we love each other and the power of that love.

Me (and another woman in a marvelously bedazzled shirt) holding an indivisible central Ohio banner at the cbus pride parade.

I brought my refugee friend to the low income health clinic. Most people in the waiting room are immigrants. Several men in uniforms walked in and the room went silent. It turned out they were EMTs, but we all watched them the entire time and were relieved when they left.

Ever since I found out that federal senators use keyword AI for their messages to gauge constituent concerns, I call after hours and say “no Medicaid cuts” and “it is not waste to provide affordable healthcare to the people of Ohio” over and over.

Maybe the billionaires will have 2 cars instead of 30 cars...and maybe the 2nd house will cost a couple of bucks more due to wealth taxes? Then, maybe, everyone else can have healthcare and fully funded schools? We tax the top 1% fairly so the bottom 50% can afford to survive? TAX THE RICH.

In 2007, I made a $50 micro-loan to a through Kiva.org. When that loan was paid back, I rolled that same money into another micro-loan. Since 2007, that money (with a little more added from time to time) has been used for 22 microloans in 11 developing counties. What a good investment!

Our refugee family has continued to settle in. I am helping the mom find a job and giving the 27 yo driving lessons. The kiddos are learning English so fast! Someone let them try ice cream, so they ask for it a lot! I am worn out, but continue to be grateful for the opportunity to support them.

"We make eggs many colors. Then a rabbit comes in your house and hides them for the children and also brings a basket of chocolate and candy...." "But once the kids sleep, YOU are the rabbit!" -Me trying to explain American easter traditions to the refugee family. They were so, so confused.

A deranged-looking easter bunny wearing a pastel suit and bowtie, skipping through a field carrying an easter basket full of dyed eggs.

Man, this timeline is getting weird and Trump is totally going to end up banning TikTok. The Chinese suppliers outing Western brands that produce in China and do the last stage in other countries so they can slap a “made in” label there are going to be the nail in the coffin. It is so interesting.

This little girl is my grandma with her little brother and my great grandmother who I called Grammy. Nothing speaks to the universal experience of motherhood more than that finger pinning down my Grandma's wiggly arm. Genealogy brings humanity to the names on a family tree. I love that finger.

A black and white photo from the mid 1930s. A mother holds a baby boy on her lap and has her left arm around a toddler girl. The index finger on that hand is gently pinning down the blurred/moving arm of the little girl. The mother looks slightly annoyed but is trying to look pleasant for the photo.

Now that we’ve heard back from all of our locations, we can share that our official count for Ohio’s Hands Off! protests was 46,980 people across 57 locations! In towns big and small, we all turned out in the rain to stand up for democracy, against executive overreach, and to say #HandsOff !

Image of Ohio map with dots indicating the areas where a hands off protest occurred. Text above image reads: April 5, 2025 | 57 Protests with 15,499 people registered | 46,980 people attended | 57 of 57 towns reported

My dumb dog has seizures so they put her on a med that makes her a menace and ravenously hungry. This morning she stole a whole box of bakery cookies from the table and ate them all, including a chocolate one. Now we are at the vet so she can barf it out. *sigh*

Up in trump country buying a new used car to beat the tariffs. The Mr is undermining my TAX THE RICH tshirt by repeatedly saying things like “I have to transfer money over from the brokerage acct” and “I am just buying her car for her, she doesn’t need to be on the financing documents.” 🙄
