This is an excellent analogy, because my recollection from grade school is that the pen on the right looks fun and exciting, and then you play with it for a few minutes and realize it's not actually useful for anything and in fact makes some tasks more cumbersome, and never think about it again.

yeah, just out of interest, how many people choose the pen on the right for real work or art? See a lot of them in professional workplaces, do you?

Other-donkey: a portmanteau of “other mommy” and “donkey.” She called me donkey and I accidentally laughed when I responded “I’m your other mommy,” prompting the evolution of the bit. She has been calling me this for a few hours now.
Other mommy: “other mommy” is the name goose uses to differentiate me from my wife (“mommy”). The names are largely interchangeable but I get “other mommy” a little more often and now I’m fond of it. Note: no relation to Coraline/evolved independently
Donkey: Goose has been repeating the word “donkey” because it’s fun to say. ie: donkey donkey donkey donkey.

(Includes an illustration of the process) when I handed her the plate of sliced strawberries, she said “these are macaroni.” “Ok,” I said.
Macaroni: no precedent. She had macaroni a few times last week? We ate at restaurants more than usual while at the shore and it was all she wanted from any given menu.

Kiko: we went to the shore last week and the town we stayed in had the type of crossing signals that beep and talk. She was fascinated by these and “kiko” is how she imitated the beeping sound the signal made while waiting for it to give us a walk signal.
