I'm still not one for toy collecting, but sometimes, I just gotta have it. Got my hands on The Punisher modeled after his appearance in the "One Last Kill" TV special! I've been a fan of the character for a long time. I really want to open this, but I don't think I can... 😅

A new written Expedition Log is live! I played Chasm, an indie metroidvania inspired by classics like Symphony of the Night. Beautiful pixel art, rewarding exploration, and a few interesting twists. Check out my thoughts! Have you played it? theretrowildlands.com/blog/chasm
Chasm: Descending Into The Unknown
Is Chasm worth playing? Read my review of Bit Kid's metroidvania to see how its combat, exploration, and randomized world hold up.

I completely forgot to show off my latest bounty! Always happy to add to my Vita collection, and my PS3 deserves more love. And Call of Duty on the DS? Sure, why not. Physical forever, baby.
It's amazing how ambitious some NES games really were. Which NES game do you think was ahead of its time? #retrogaming #blastermaster #nes #nintendo
One of my favorite unlockables in any game. What's your favorite crossover weapon or Easter egg in a video game? #retrogaming #parasiteeve #ps1 #podcast #retrogames
Vacation: Day 6 - The weather finally cleared up and it was back to the beach. I tried to take this cool photo of Link's Awakening on my Switch while standing by the water, which I thought would be neat given the game's opening, but lighting wasn't on my side. Anyway, awesome game so far!
It's hard to imagine a game like this getting made today. #retrogames #retrogaming #NARC #NES #Nintendo
Vacation: Day 4 - Weather continues to be meh here in Corolla, NC. But that's alright. I'm with family, and we're having a hell of a time. I'll post more "vacation-y" photos later (my wife is so much better at taking pictures). For now, it's more gamin' and bourbon for me. Cheers!
I've been such a fan of Thy Sword, and even through I did a video review a long while back, I wanted to go back and put my thoughts on paper. If you're a fan of pixel art, or old-school hack-and-slash, this one might be worth adding to your backlog. theretrowildlands.com/blog/thy-sword
Thy Sword: The Indie Gem I Almost Missed
Thy Sword is a retro-inspired indie hack-and-slash with gorgeous pixel art and satisfying combat. Here's why it's worth your time.

Vacation: Day 2 - I went through some old photos. I usually do this once a year on vacation to clean up space, but it's fun to look back. I found this photo from when I was setting up my office into what it is now so it could accommodate my growing game collection. Sic Parvis Magna and all that. 😁
Vacation: Day 1 - I've been playing Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure recently on my DS. Very fun game so far, and being on the roof of the house I'm renting with an ocean view and a beer off screen just makes this game that much more fun.
Decided to snag The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales before leaving for vacation. I knew about this 2.5D adventure, but once someone compared it to A Link to the Past, that was it, had to have it. Anyone aware of, or playing this one?
A huge thanks to everyone that voted! Across all of our socials, the majority of you said I need to play Link's Awakening on my upcoming family vacation! Paper Mario was only 5 votes behind. Looking forward to dive in between trips to the beach and impromptu naps. 😎
New podcast episode is live! This time in our Expedition Log, I chronicle my thoughts on Syphon Filter for the PS1. Was Syphon Filter really a PS1 classic? Or is nostalgia doing the heavy lifting? I replayed Gabe Logan's adventure to find out. theretrowildlands.com/episode/expe...
Expedition Log #9 - Syphon Filter
Was Syphon Filter really as good as we remember, or is nostalgia doing most of the heavy lifting? In our latest entry in our Expedition Log, I revisit this...

Tomorrow, I'm heading back to 1999 to find out if Syphon Filter still holds up. Keep an eye on your podcast apps, agents.
@limitedrungames.com has started taking pre-orders on a physical release for Silent Hill: The Short Message. It's spurred some interesting discussion as The Short Message is a free digital only download on the Playstation store. I liked the game for what it was, and wrote a review on it last year!
The Silent Hill Moment That Made Me Hug My Daughter
Silent Hill: The Short Message delivers a modern, emotional horror story that left me shaken, and more connected to those I love.

This video ends exactly as you would expect. I know I'm not the only one who experienced this, right!? #retrogaming #retrogames #castlevania
Our new motion activated camera is pretty neat. Glad it recognizes the Buster Sword as dangerous.
I still get nervous every time this level starts. What video game level gave you the most trouble as a kid?
Mega Man 2's Wood Man stage is one of those levels I'll never forget. What's a video game level that's stuck with you for years?
Hunting platinum trophies continues to kill my productivity. 😅 Finally finished the Fatal Frame II Remake to absolute completion. Great game, though going for completion really got grindy at the end... Does achievement hunting enhance or detract from your gaming experience? Genuinely curious!
My VIP passes for the 2026 Cleveland Gaming Classic are secure! I'm excited to add to my VIP badge collection, too. Every year I have a blast and cannot wait to return! Anyone else heading there this year?
Some games get better with age. Some games get modernized and lose a little of what made them special. And then there's the Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake, a game that somehow manages to do both at the same time. Check out my written thoughts. 🦋 theretrowildlands.com/blog/fatal-f...
Fatal Frame II Remake: A Classic Caught Between Two Worlds
Fatal Frame II Remake delivers stunning visuals and chilling atmosphere, but some modern additions come at a surprising cost.
