“People have turned idol worship of political figures and online personalities into something like a comfort blanket—clinging to them in reverential, memeified, and childlike ways that more resemble how someone might talk about the characters on their favorite TV show.”

The Parasocial Style in American Politics, Part 2: Witch Hunts and Comfort Blankets

As during witch hunts, social media enables a process of rendering people into totemic figures in a war between Good and Evil.

Enjoyed this Esquire feature on the Churchwell brothers. IMO, they are among the last elegantly dressed men in the United States. Notably, neither are "fashion influencers." They are both distinguished cardiologists with great taste and a lifetime relationship with the same tailor.

I'll add one more thing to the list of Things This Administration Has Done That I Don't Despise, for Thanksgiving purposes. The other two? 1: Sticking it to US ranchers by importing a bunch of Argentine beef, and 2: Mocking Larry Summers for his Epstein bootlicking.

The federal government is moving to shut down the organization that manages organ donations in the Kentucky region, US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. announced, calling the organization a “bad apple.”

In Bari Weiss' Free Press, Olivia Reingold reported from El-Sayed's watch party that "there were keffiyehs as far as the eye could see ... keffiyehs on heads, keffiyehs as belts, keffiyeh-printed phone cases." Not a single one made it into images from Reuters, a local ABC station, or Detroit News.

The details are a little fuzzy, but I think what happened is even funnier: The call was *hosted* by the White House Faith Office and *posted* by a religious activist group, which once again affirms that the people in charge of the government right now are some of the stupidest motherfuckers alive

As his confirmation to lead the Justice Department hung by a thread last week, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told faith leaders on a private call that he was preparing to take action to roll back abortion access nationwide.
On a recording of the call posted online Thursday by the religious group Intercessors for America and hosted by the White House Faith Office, Blanche lamented that the Trump administration’s efforts to restrict abortion are “taking longer than we want” but said the Justice Department was “working hand in hand” with federal health agencies and the White House “so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state.”

There will probably always be people telling humanists that they need to shill - to get behind a Hollywood production, or take a bold stand for Silicon Valley, or turn the humanities into an adjunct of public policy. You can safely ignore them at no intellectual cost.

This is concerning for a zillion reasons but, a dispensary in Michigan went viral for blocking a Flock camera in its parking lot designed to create a record of every car that goes there. Easy to imagine this being used in abortion, gender affirming care cases

It is not difficult to imagine police in one state using Flock to track a resident of their state cross state lines to, for example, obtain an abortion that is legal in one state but not in another. Last year, 404 Media reported on police in Texas who searched more than 80,000 cameras across Flock’s nationwide network for a woman who had a self-administered abortion.

The case is also particularly concerning considering that Flock cameras have popped up outside of weed dispensaries in Michigan. The JARS Cannabis dispensary in Madison Heights, Michigan, went viral this week for putting a “No Flock Zone” sign in front of a Flock camera in the dispensary’s parking lot. “We share our community’s concerns about increased surveillance, which is why we placed the No Flock Zone sign in front of the camera to block its ability to record,” the dispensary said in a public statement. “JARS does not control the camera or have access to any of the data it collects … after we installed our No Flock Zone sign, the city issued a demand letter warning of sanctions if we did not remove it within 48 hours.” But that Flock camera exists specifically to monitor the license plates of people who come and go to the dispensary. It was required by Madison Heights as one of the conditions for giving a dispensary license to JARS: “[The dispensary] must place a FLOCK license plate scanning camera system at the entrance of the customer parking lot prior to commencement of retail sales, and it will give the Madison Heights Police Department unhindered live access to the FLOCK camera, camera footage, and any and all data, which must remain operational at all times.”

Correct but the fact that the leftists keep winning and are better organized and motivated than they’ve ever been before does. It remains to be seen how much and how hard the empire successfully strikes back in this intra party conflict but ofc the Dems are going thru their “tea party” phase rn…

My ice-cold boring take that will definitely not go viral is that a primary result with a margin of victory of roughly 1 percent tells you precisely nothing about The Future Of The Party.

A paramilitary group plotted to overthrow the Constitution then conducted a violent attack on America. They were convicted in court of seditious conspiracy, and jailed. Then the leader they aimed to illegally install got power and let them out, their records wiped clean. The Jan. 6 attackers won.

Judge Pained as He Grants Dismissal of Jan. 6 Charges Against Oath Keepers

The judge, Amit P. Mehta, blasted the administration’s request for a dismissal in the case, saying it bestowed “unearned grace” on the Oath Keepers defendants “by wiping their records clean.”
