Rest in peace Lloyd. My memories of childhood are reading in bed with a flashlight way past my bedtime, and when I’d hear your signature sign off after the 11pm news, “And that’s the kind of day it’s been.” I’d turn off the light and pretend to be asleep, since I knew parents would coming up to bed.

New headline: Veteran Canadian broadcaster Lloyd Robertson dead at 92.

First time I heard this vial meme quote today (and there’s no consensus on its original author) but it perfectly sums up a lot of concern with AI: “The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.”

Although I don’t really do “long weekends” (like the Dowager Countess, clergy often ask “What is a weekend?”) it was still very nice to finish this holiday Monday with dinner on the patio of a neighbourhood staple - Le Select Bistro.

Me at our table on the patio. James at the table. A shot of the patio.

A lot of people don’t know this but social media algorithms de-emphasize the people you follow to push new creators instead. On Instagram tap the Instagram logo, which gives a drop menu. Select “Following” to ensure you see the accounts you follow, not the ones Instagram wants you to see.

Trump’s Truth Social launched "Truth API," a $100 K /mth subscription service for financial firms providing Wall Street traders high-speed, automated access to market-moving posts from top accounts, including President Donald Trump. He doesn’t even try to hide the corruption and insider dealing.

And once again, the one member of the household who was up at 5:30am is taking photos of the napping other members of the household who likely slept in until 10am.

Husband James in a hoodie, hood up over his head, napping in a chair with our dog asleep on his lap.

Imagine carrying a grudge for 6 yrs because someone 6 yrs ago asked you to wear a mask to keep you and others safe from a virus killing people across the globe. Now imagine telling yourself this anger is a sign of intense faith in a God who told us to love our neighbours as ourselves. Imagine 😖

In my tradition, August 1st is “Lammas Day” - a festival rarely acknowledged now. Lammas comes from the Anglo-Saxon for “loaf mass” when Christians would take a loaf of bread, made from the first wheat harvested, to have it blessed and to pray for crops still growing and the harvest still to come /1

Bread, apples, wheat and sunflowers surrounding the text: Happy Lammas Day.
