Reynard had observed him once in a tavern in a disreputable alley in Gent. He was drinking yellow wine from Béziers, darkened with spices, cloves floating in the cup. He didn't see Reynard, who sat in the corner, disguised a little by his hood.

Isengrim the Wolf was tall and rangy and covered in jagged, ragged scars from his many duels and skirmishes. His fur was mottled grey with that reddish tinge which the Flanders wolves were once known for.
