snippet of my (old-ish and unedited pls spare me) writing that reads “Aurel pushes himself up with frail arms, faintly groaning from the pain searing his internal organs. He watches with amusement as the guard curls his lip and holds the rat a small distance away from him.
Before he gets too close, Aurel himself scoots closer to the iron bars. The guard brings it over– he kneels down, and slowly, cautiously, he drops it through the bars, but before he can pull away–
“AGH!” The guard yelps, in the blink of an eye Aurel has grabbed onto the guard’s wrist. The rat runs around the cell, but Aurel pays no mind to it. Instead he laughs at the fear staining the face of this poor mortal man. The futile attempts to pull his arm back through give a perfect final touch to Aurel’s amusement. “Let– let GO–!”
He lets his laugh fall to a snicker and lets go. The guard stumbles back, staring wide eyed at Aurel while rubbing his wrist.
“Oh come on, I was just messing around.” He says, holding his grin. “It’s rather boring in this dark and damp cell, I need to have my fun somehow.””

i miss them so much

they feel nothing but guilt as they sit up in bed and grab their phone. cradling it in their hands, they stare at the screen. they bring up ashley’s number but hesitate.

would he answer? he didn’t even say goodbye. and time hasn’t really passed. it’s only been a few hours, but ellis wants him there. they want him to come back. they want to apologize and tell him they don’t feel any differently. that they still care about him. that they still...
they swallow the lump in their throat and dial.

“ellis?” he answers. he answers.

they stay quiet for too long, and he asks again.

“ellis, is something wrong?” his voice is on the edge of panic, they can tell.

they try to clear their throat, but cough out a sob instead.

“what’s wrong?” he asks.

“can you...” they start, but another cry threatens to break them. they choke it down and squeeze their eyes shut. “can you come back?” they ask quietly.

they wonder if he even hears them when he remains silent. they’re about to muster up the courage to ask again when he speaks.

“yeah,” he breathes. “yeah, i’ll be right there.”
