Next week the team of veterans and service personnel will return to Castlemartin Ranges with @henebtwa.bsky.social to explore the enigmatic promontory fort at Buckspool. Will we find Iron Age evidence? Or objects like this exquisite jet Roman pin? #findsfriday #archaeology #wellbeing #veterans
Book recommendation! I really enjoyed @elodieharper.bsky.social‘s work to imagine the fate of Boudicca’s daughters so have now moved to the Wolf Den a story from Pompeii. ‘Boudicca’s Daughter’ big thumbs up esp as a @theduncanmackay.bsky.social credit is within! #archaeology #history #druid #roman

Absolutely wonderful evening at @butserancientfarm.co.uk for the burning of their wicker man - THE AMESBURY ARCHER- hence my talking on the Bronze Age. Drums, music, art in beautiful countryside. The sound of the carnyx too as the man burned. Here’s to 2027! #archaeology #wickerman #beltane
Joyous Beltain to you! If you are at @butserancientfarm.co.uk tomorrow come & find me as I talk about the Bronze Age from our ancient roundhouse. And then marvel as we burn the wicker man to ask for the land and crops to be blessed! #archaeology #wickerman #beltaneblessings #heritage
#findsfriday - the Lewis Chess pieces. Now in the @ntlmuseumsscot.bsky.social Edinburgh, these 12-13 century items were made from walrus ivory & whale teeth, found in around 1831. Initially carved in Norway they highlight links to Scandinavia. Quite wonderful. #archaeology #chess
Anzac Day 2026. With thoughts for the service personnel of Australia and New Zealand. Especially Alan Mather, George Sayner and my grandfather Walter Osgood #anzacday2026 #anzac 🇦🇺 🇳🇿
In addition to Druids, my current obsession is chariots! Mostly Iron Age but the Roman equivalents are passable. Cool to be in Colchester at the site of only known Roman circus in Britannia with all the chariot links that entails & an old @timeteam.bsky.social too! #chariot #archaeology #Roman
#hillfortswednesday the interior of the reconstructed roundhouse from Moel y Gerddi hill in north Wales at @butserancientfarm complete with lovely La tene artwork, firedogs and rather splendid sheep! a super place to visit. #ironage #celts #archaeology
***Stop Press*** A rather incredible piece of news just in. The Crick has examined the DNA of the two individuals in a Saxon burial at Cherington in our dig with @timeteam.bsky.social & @cotswoldarch.bsky.social & found that they were BROTHER & SISTER. Astonishing what science can do now.
Vikings? In Winchester? Poor old King Alfred would be appalled! King Cnut perhaps less so…. If you want to read more about The remnants of Saxon and Viking rulers I’d recommend the Bone Chests by @catjarman #Vikings #archaeology #alfredthegreat #winchester
What splendid progress in the Sutton Hoo ship build in Woodbridge. Great display of construction techniques, of tapestry work and also the Coppergate helmet . All followed by @timeteam.bsky.social as well #saxon #suttonhoo #experimentalarchaeology

This Monday and Tuesday a group of volunteers re-chalked the wonderful Bulford Chalk kiwi - one of the younger scheduled monuments in Salisbury Plain constructed in 1919. I love this community project which we try to accomplish every year or so. #heritage #newzealand www.gov.uk/government/n...
#hillfortswednesday - a distant view of Sidbury Hillfort on Salisbury Plain with modern day warriors in the foreground. The ever-fabulous kukri dance performed by the 3rd Division Gurkha Signals yesterday. #heritage
