Honestly, why can’t there be nerds who don’t like fantasy and sci fi. I’m nerd enough to feel separate from the normal lot, then the nerds start wanging on about Star Trek/Wars/something with wizards and dragons. 😔

Still a City worker, still following cycling too much like a religion. Now has more opinions on ESG & sustainable investing than your average.
Quite sceptical about value of AI as it pertains to writing stuff, but bugger me, it’s so useful for these ridiculous formats marketing insist we present our information in. It works away in the background and is reliably good.
Joking aside, there are jobs that I’ve witnessed where you really need AI tools to hit the level of productivity required to keep your job. Sometimes this is being done with shadow AI, especially those with job insecurity and this is obviously a big governance issue
I've never used ChatGPT. If I'm absolutely honest, although I've heard of Claude, I'm not 100% sure what it is. I've never knowingly used an #AI tool. To me, this post reads like 'If pre-sliced cheese was suddenly banned, would you even know how to slice cheese manually?'
Shout out to greater northern who have cancelled vast numbers fast trains from Cambridge/Cambridge North/ Kings Lynn via Cambridge and visa versa trains for what, 2 months now? “…more trains than usual need repairing”
Tuned into the Tour de Femmes. Tbh I felt a bit worried I was being a bit sexist as it really felt like an amateurish peloton, but then I read Roxane Knetemann making the same point. I feel like quite a lot of the peloton just can’t hack it? I’ve seen much better women’s races than this…
Lotta blame on the oil firms. Not much blame on everyone demanding what they dig out of the ground. Come on guys, it’s a demand problem, not a supply problem. Is no one paying attention to the Iran war?
At some point, conflict-avoidance becomes avoidance of accountability and effective action altogether. 🔌💡
Some entrepreneurial junior has clipped the recording, and now everyone is enjoying the fun.
Shout out to the colleague who just inadvertently interrupted the global sales call with an unmuted mic, declaring “ I’m on the most violent of jack off calls; they’re all fucking jacking off about how great they all are” We have the AI notetaker as evidence…

It is rather sad how much of the highest tiers of cycling rest on local govt support (either teams or races) and, in ‘26, West European govts do not have money.
The Flanders-Baloise team will stop at the end of the season, long expected but confirmed now. Can't find a replacement sponsor after Flemish govt. pulled funding. Has been running for 33 years and sent over a 100 riders onto other pro teams. Press release www.teamflanders-baloise.be/nieuws (🇳🇱)
How long till govts start buying cat bonds
Climate impacts will become a structural macro-fiscal problem. With low private insurance, EU governments are sleepwalking into becoming disaster insurers of last resort. Our @bruegel.org Policy Brief on mitigating rising fiscal costs of climate disasters. 🔗 www.bruegel.org/policy-brief... 🧵1/10
A party that was actually anti-racist would be kicking this person out, not allowing them to run for the Governing Committee. There are many decent Greens who will be disgusted by this and I wish them all power fighting back against it. We know from experiance how hard that is.
Trying to explain my loathing of the hipster and their current East London derivatives to the office youth and I just can’t articulate how awful they were.
There must be some way to punish this sort of behaviour that falls short of “we will refuse to treat you” but not by much.
"There's a real thing going on in the composition of the staff...does that not have to be looked at as well?" Nick Robinson, on Today, discussing this news.sky.com/story/nhs-st...
How’s that working out for them?
The same Russian outlets that regularly dedicate significant attention to falsely claiming that ‘Ukraine is refusing peace’, today took a break from that narrative and returned to very openly discussing the ‘erasure’ of Ukraine as a state.
My most boomer opinion is you do not need to take a water bottle to school in addition to whatever you have with your lunch.
This is a harrowing - though not surprising - read. It’s probably hard to quantify, but I think we need to know how widespread this approach is, and what impact it has on young people’s mental health
The senior defence departure does certainly coincide with a real change in approach to what constitutes a legitimate target
Ukrainian drones also blew up a building at Belgorod State Technological University where drone technology was developed. #explodey
Yes, this is what happens when you’re producing stuff *everyone* wants but your rival can’t get their produce to their customers.
(1/2) The Iran war is a redistribution machine: Big oil profits have shot up to historic highs. Our research shows that 50% of fossil fuel profits go to the richest 1% in the U.S. The rich are the ultimate beneficiaries of the war windfalls.
Maybe it’s a Cambridge thing but I 100% know parents who would take the Altman logic.
Perhaps it’s just my line, but the trains are just utterly shambolic. The only thing you can rely on is that they will go wrong and things will not run smoothly. Every day, the same shit.
So it seems “compute” has become sufficiently in demand and commoditised, that, not only can you trade “compute” but you can actually negotiate off-take agreements to provide additional distributed “compute” when there is excess grid capacity. The mind boggles
Tbh I have found the effectiveness of any response is contingent on your size and how threatening you look.
When heckled by a driver, there may be all manner of thoughts that cross your mind. Do you plead ignorance, play deaf, or retort? One social media user recently found an answer made a smug driver "roll up his window" and drive on, but they wouldn't recommend the approach. road.cc/news/cycling...
Update on world enshitificstion. Had to buy some stuff online because the shop only sold that model online. Delivery driver then broke my wall when delivering said parcel. DPD were delighted to explain that because the driver is self employed, he has to wear the cost or deny it.
I wouldn’t invest in a bank whose HQ staff are on first name terms with the police.

How’s the “not calculating climate change when evaluating an investment” working out? Or are US regulators gonna weasel and say “oh, physical risk isn’t evaluating climate change” ?
Wildfire risks are projected to increase over 88% of the planet’s fire-prone area—pretty much everywhere that is not a desert or an ice sheet. The world needs to prepare
