Heck I remember even Ben Daniels got similar pushback. When Cirdan is SPECIFICALLY described as "old" by the Third Age. So casting a 62 year old for the Second Age made perfect sense. The internet gives way too much cultural weight to people who DON'T. READ.

For many actors in ROP it is racism and sexism--which they are still bombarded with daily--and in Charles' case it was ageism. He overcame that hurdle and won them over. But none of them should "have" to win over bad faith viewers. These audience members don't deserve any of them.

I think Charles Edwards gives one of the best performances in Rings of Power as Celebrimbor, there was originally some jokes about him but I think Edwards got his character very instictively, getting to the Silmarillion-esque vibe of tragedy, hubris and obsession with him.
