#9albums sourced by data from the amazing #MusicBrainz Music influences arising in places where I’ve lived 1. Farmington, New Mexico 2. Salt Lake City, Utah (early) 3. Salt Lake City, Utah (later) 4. Berkeley, CA 5. New Haven - NYC 6. London 7. Pittsburgh, PA 8. Smithville, TX & SAMW 9. Houston ,TX

Nine albums
1. Woodstock soundtrack 2 LP, probably still the best version
2. Thad Jones-Mel Lewis “Consummation”, charts played in Ladd McIntosh’s band at Westminster
3. Zappa/Mothers Roxy and Elsewhere, we met the band, Fowler Brothers, Ruth Underwood, George Due
4. Dave Holland “Conference of the Birds”, bought after seeing Rivers and Holland in concert at Keystone Korner SF
5. Charlie Haden - Carla Bley “Ballad of the Fallen”, saw this band at Sweet Basil NYC, with Bill Frisell subbing on guitar
6. Anthony Braxton / Evan Parker duo, I attended this stunning concert at the Bloomsbury Theatre
7. “Thoth Speaks” by Ben Opie’s great Thoth Trio with Paul Thompson and Dave Throckmorton
8. Rich DelGrosso “Get Your Nose Outta My Business” representing my mentors in the blues and SAMW
9. Geoff Stradling “Nimble Digits”, my old roommate’s astounding LA big band and charts, executive produced from Houston

A useful approach to the limitations of LLMs trained on what we already know. That the DOGE punks confidently gutted science because "AI will cure cancer" incenses me. Science advances precisely at the margin between what we know and what we don't -- any real advance depends on a *surprise*.

Happy holidays! Who is doing some holiday MusicBrainz editing? You’re not alone, it seems a lot of people unwind by entering some data - me included! MusicBrainz just hit an all time high, with 43,000+ daily edits. -a

Most “favorite of year” lists came out in November; now that it’s mid-December, here’s mine. Ten 2024 “jazz” releases that I especially enjoy: #bestof2024 #jazz 2024 Geoff Stradling & the Stradband – Nimble Digits (Origin Records) Josephine Davies – Weatherwards (Whirlwind Recordings)
