Here's a work in progress at knowledgekeepr.com. We're building a traditional territory map - something authoritative, relying on legal documents, nation publications...This differs from Native-Land.ca's (now defunct) territory map which stresses that it shouldn't be used as an authoritative source.

Buzz-killing fact: my First Nation actually did this (and others have too). There was a secessionist group in our nation, and they tried to get attention to their cause and council passed a resolution shunning them, denying them benefits and denying them homes on rez.
You should be able to hold as many referendums on secession as you wish, but each time you lose, someone from the movement leadership should be randomly selected and exiled.
This. This is why we decide all the elections in Ontario and Quebec. (for legal purposes, this is a joke)
In 2011 PostMedia was trading at $2550.00 per share. If you put in $1,000,000 at that time, it would currently be worth $60.78. They have sharted away a quarter billion dollars in market capitalization. Their market cap now is barely half of what they get in government subsidies.

My sister-in-law was in a road rage incident this morning, two angry giant guys got mad at her and drove her to the side of the road, cut her off and started screaming at her and my niece. My brother came to get her out, and then the RCMP showed up and accused her of being drunk (because Native)...

“Vancouver, grow up.” Video by Bob Mackin of Colleen Hardwick last night insulting the intelligence of anyone who voted for Ken Sim four years ago or Pete Fry now. I wonder if her base will ever change their opinions on whether this rhetoric has been an effective way of expanding her support.
Two of the Powell River candidates @thetyee.ca reported on in this story, Jim Palm and Ted Vizzutti, have been elected mayor and councillor, respectively. thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...

The Union of BC Indian Chiefs urged five municipalities to address the issue. We check on those council races.

I feel like I’m more invested in that Kelowna candidate who seemed like he really didn’t want to run at all. I keep refreshing to see if he got a seat 😂 #bcelections
Provided Ken Sim doesn't have a magic lantern or monkey's paw or something, there's no way he's going to turn this around. #Vancouver
Today I travelled from Alert Bay to Gilford Island and the Kwikwasut'inuxw Haxwa'mis First Nation. I've never seen so many whales - 10+ sightings of them, got a half dozen on tape, and the landscape is... what? Etherial? Is there another word...?
I'm up in Alert Bay, home of the 'Namgis First Nation today. Tomorrow off to another island to meet with another Nation. This place is really unexpected - it looks like an Alaskan town, feels like Nelson, and it's a Native place where tourists can get fillet mignon and signature cocktails.
BC Greens Indigenous policy seems to open the door for Metis sovereignty over First Nations territory in BC (the thing First Nations have fought so hard against in the East), as well as innumerable pretendian and separatist tribes. Not just no, but f*ck no.

Another elder has just died from their injuries from that incident at Tsawwassen Nation during TRC Day. The family is clearly skeptical about how it happened - as you can see from their FB timelines, and the police aren’t saying much. I will remind you of this history here…
This is the third incident of a car driving through a residential school march in the last 5 years. Oddly high number of coincidences. When they drove through the one I was at, the police minimized and excused that one at first too. So I'd be curious what this investigation will actually show.
Well that's just a cool visual. Navy ship under construction. I think it'll be the HMCS Preserver.
Windy day in Vancouver, which can only mean - new batch of shipwrecks.
A reminder came up in my FB mentions... This one time on October 8th, I went to Genova, Italy, to the house where Christopher Columbus was born and installed a plaque on it, claiming it on behalf of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.
As part of a contract I'm doing for a bunch of First Nations cultural institutions, I built a Canadian Indigenous cultural institutions directory. With museums, archives, language, cultural centres, as well as funders. Check it out here: www.indigstitutions.org

A deep gorgeous story that sits in the bones and the heart. Read it. (Thank you, Robert Jago.)
I finally finished this short story - it’s set in the late 1940s and centres around these kids back from Residential School - the family tries to fix them, and in the course of it awakens the stelaqelm - a race of supernatural monsters… substack.com/@rjjago/note...

Ok I’ve now asked around - it’s not just me. Why did no one tell us all that there was a whole ass other seawall on the North Shore, in WestVan?!

It's finally kiwi-berry season. They're like kiwis, but they're the size of cherries (apple next to it for comparison). Also they had tiny cantaloupes at the market today - it's on the left by the 'ground cherries'.
I keep meaning to ask - anyone know - what are these things? These are at the edge of terra nova lands in Richmond. They line the entire ocean-facing side of Lulu Island, and I’ve not seen them anywhere else.
