Fwiw I believe McConnell is alive. The real issue is, and has been, that Senators don’t retire and not a single aging Republican or Democratic Senator seems to give a shit. McConnell wasn’t running for reelection but he’s been out of it for years. Grassley is set to run in 2028. Sanders in 2030.
Just watched Hail Mary, and while I really enjoyed it, I think (without having read this book or Artemis) the one tell for his work is: everyone is funny/clever. To the point of not being realistic. I believe the Martian balanced it better by having a purpose most of the time
