A powerful Glyndebourne production of Britten’s Billy Budd at this year’s Festival. The setting made the ship feel suitably claustrophobic. Great performances but Allen Clayton’s Starry Vere stood out. Thomas Mole, playing Billy, wasn’t even born when I last saw this opera 😂.He sang it wonderfully.

Although it wasn’t to be one of our Home Nations lifting the @fifaworldcup-x.bsky.social Cup this time (although @england got the closest to it since 1966), G and I were relieved that Spain prevailed. We kept our spirits up by finishing the Lego World Cup that is nearly as heavy as the real thing.

A very hot Cambridge yesterday as I enjoyed two seminar sessions with law students from the Commonwealth as part of the Cambridge Law Programme 2026 organised by the Oxford Centre For Leadership. Discussing constitutional law across jurisdictions and courtroom advocacy in an adversarial setting.

As promised, some more photos of the grandeur of Durham Cathedral - the tombs of the Venerable Bede and Saint Cuthbert - and the original Sanctuary Ring, which was never a door knocker as Simon Groom suggested on Blue Peter! It was replaced by a replica in the 1980s.

A wonderful few days with lovely daughter M and friends starting at the airport by the Rock of Gibraltar and taking in beautiful Cádiz on the way-the 18th century Cathedral dominates the old town and contains an ornate and lovely choir with two organs and a range of other treasures.

Phew that was warm! Blue skies and rising temperatures meant that lots of layers and a hat weren’t the best way to keep cool! Another memorable visit to @AscotRacecourse. On days like this I always think of the wonderful Greatwood Farm which looks after retired thoroughbreds in deepest Wiltshire.

A few hours of fun at Queens Club Championships with friends this week. Mr Norrie did not progress further in the tournament but an otherwise happy occasion without rain! The Clubhouse is delightful and has managed to retain an old world charm that is vanishing in so many other places.

Great to hear from Sir @robertbuckland.bsky.social on the unique role of #MajorChurches as living witnesses to faith at the very heart of public life, responding down the generations to enduring human needs for meaning, belonging, community and hope.

Loved the Queen Elizabeth II exhibition at the King’s Gallery Buckingham Palace - her Coronation gown is breathtaking. Each outfit was so carefully chosen- wonderful Norman Hartnell and Hardy Amies designs #kingsgallery

Always a delight to visit the Wallace Collection. Many different wonders to see but I particularly love Poussin’s A Dance To The Music of Time and Gainsborough’s Mrs Robinson aka Perdita. If you haven’t been then do it now! It’s the sort of place that you visit many times in order to fully enjoy
