Doing most things is not the difficult part. ***Deciding*** what to do is the difficult part. That's the challenge. That's also the beauty of having kids. By just making one single decision to have a child, you are actually making billions of future decisions. Having kids is a kind of "easy mode".

In adulthood, it takes much more effort to stay in touch with friends. Consequently, we've scheduled quarterly catch-ups! (The key is to just plan recurring syncs in advance!) I'll be seeing W in a few weeks and just began listening to this yesterday. Very memorable so far. Excited to chat ab it!
open.spotify.com/episode/1njo... I love this advice from Jocko: "The best cure is often to simply take action." Don't ruminate. Don't get in your own head. Don't sit w/ your feelings or process your emotions or whatever. Just take action. Just start working on the thing. Just get started. Action.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eero_Sa... TIL about Eero Saarinen - an absolute legend. I really admire his architecture work!! He also invented the iconic Tulip chair too. Do folks here on bsky have a favorite designer or architect? Would love to hear your most beloved works!!

Man was destined to dream BIG. To do BIG things. To go FAR. To be GREAT. To pursue GRANDEUR. Don't settle for a small life. Get out in the world. Put yourself out there. Try the thing. Goto the place. Ask the question. Make the call. We are meant for MORE. You are meant for MORE. Go & DO the thing.
Did anyone else interpret the sacking of Troy as the 9/11 attacks? 9/11 was literally the first thing I thought of when I watched that scene. The terrorists could never defeat America head-on so they used cunning deceit & trickery to "win". But Bin Laden's victory ultimately broke the modern world.
Cleaned out the garage today and succeeded in parking the car inside for the first time in months. It is a glorious feeling. Car, I give you shelter!!
Odysseus was only able to make it home when he completely surrendered all control and got on his rink-a-dink raft, left Charlize Theron, and pushed himself into the sea. As soon as he accepted that his fate was out of his hands and resigned himself, the gods then delivered him back home to Ithaca.
Watched The Odyssey with the crew tonight! Though it's 3hrs long I really enjoyed it. I like how a message of the movie is that for Odysseus to win the battle (Troy) he basically had to lose the war. What enabled civilization was following The Code of Zeus. As soon as he violated that code with "the
Why do I post on social media every day? A few reasons: I enjoy chronicling my life and it's a great record keeping mechanic bc I've also integrated my bsky posts into my personal site: robertl.in. And it helps my people find me. To find other interesting ppl, you yourself must be interesting first.
Last week the weirdest thing happened. This is not typically something I'd do, but I was driving back from the gym and saw a guy who'd broken down in the middle of the road. I saw him exit his car in the street and just start walking. He was a total stranger but I offered him a ride & he accepted!
For anyone who's unaware, YouTube offers a bunch of movies that's free to watch!! Currently watching State of Play (2009). I've also watched a few of The Purge movies and Dredd (2012) as well. Dredd (2012) with Karl Urban is fantastic though - super-reccomend watching it!!
Goodbye, Fox! I literally only subscribed to you for a month for this year's World Cup coverage (which was great!) FWIW, while I had it, the streaming service worked well! I was able to watch all of the games seamlessly on my desktop and mobile. 👌 Great work with the WC coverage this year!! 👏
This week I learned home insurance doesn't cover if a pipe leaks & needs to be fixed. Rather, it covers *damages* that happen if the pipe leaks. Fixing a leaking pipe is considered maintenance on the routine wear and tear of a house. Claude says to set aside 1% of home value for annual maintenance.
WSJ Opinion | Democratic Socialists Get Scandinavia Wrong The far left is telling supporters that the Nordic region is a socialist paradise. Not quite. By Mary Julia Koch - July 16, 2026
I feel I often see discourse that pits rich people against not rich people as the conversation. But I feel that dichotomy is wrong. There is nothing wrong with rich people. The villains are the grifters, liars, and cheaters. The people who commit fraud. SBF, Holmes, Dolezal, Skilling, Madoff, etc.
I spent an hour on a Google Meet call earlier tonight so didn't hit my >1 hour target for the day. Still, not bad! Am going to continue decreasing daily phone use this week! Am feeling good about it!!
Starting tomorrow, I'm going to aim to limit my smartphone usage to under one hour each day for the entire next week. If I need to visit a website or check my email, I'm going to do it on my computer. Trialing this new behavior for a week to see how it affects my daily life. Let's see how it goes!!

I ❤ this piece from Derek Sivers: The Past is Not True In general, this is part of his philosophy of "Useful Not True" which I've grown to increasingly adopt as I've aged. When it comes to our own mythologies, useful>true Also: A Reddit post w/ the same idea Src: sive.rs/pnt x.com/anuatluru/st...
England is ahead 4-2 right now and it is the most tenuous lead I've ever seen. 😮 This is turning into the greatest game I've ever watched though. Will England hold on? Or will France make the biggest comeback ever in World Cup history? I genuinely can't believe what I'm seeing right now. 🤯🤯🤯
An amazing writing day today. Had to skip walking and gym today but was divinely inspired. Wrote for something like five hours straight, at least, after work. Maybe more. Had two mugs of coffee. I have finished the novel's outline. Have never gotten this far before.
My gym routine is three days a week, 45min sessions each time lifting, not including stretching (~10min). On days I don't lift, I do 40 pull-ups at home (I have a portable pull-up bar I put in the closet). Today I did 40 chin-ups instead though and liked it! Moving forward, I'm going to do both! 💪🏋️♂️
Two big announcements: 1. I'm looking for my next job. 2. My website is now one of the most "Atmospheric" websites to date, going beyond just @standard.site to include @teal.fm, @anisota.net, custom lexicons, a status bar, data inspector, and more. If you want to work together, get in touch!

Sad for England today. ☹️ That's the perfect example of how sometimes the best defense is offense. Bellingham was also maybe just 1/2 a second late on that first slide tackle or he would’ve blocked the shot too! Huge props to Messi though. That assist on the second goal was truly a thing of beauty.

💯 this please. I don't personally feel strongly about permanent DST or Standard Time. I just hate having to adjust the clocks twice a year. If we can please LOCK THE CLOCK, that would be amazing here in America. I am rooting for this!! Please, Congress - pass this bill ! 🙏🙏🙏
BREAKING: the House just passed my bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent! Leader Thune should bring this bill to a vote in the Senate so we can finally get this done. More sunshine. Less depression. Let's finally lock the clock!
I'm cultivating a new personal pet theory: every person needs three physically different distinct surfaces: a dining table where you eat at, a computer desk where you do computer stuff at, and a writing desk where you write, pay bills, read+study at. I've recently set up a dedicated writing desk! ✍️
The British leading the way in democracy! You love to see it!! Count Binface could make history.
