Animator | Artist | Game dev | He/Him I love games!

The PWHL Sceptres beat the Victoire, the Flames beat the Oilers, and Canada won their game at the World Juniors (although kudos to Latvia, they played HARD). A great day of hockey and all of my teams won!

In the Banff townsite yesterday we found this crow who had perched himself on the roof of the public latrine and was yelling at everyone who walked by. I feel like if we’d stuck around a little longer maybe he would have given us a side quest.

A crow perched on the wooden roof of the public bathroom in Banff, Alberta, Canada. The crow is framed by the clouds in the far background, and there are mountains in the middle ground.

Finally had a bit of free time (work is busy!) and I thought I'd poke at the Rune stuff I was working on a little bit. Mainly I wanted to try mocking up a couple of cards with actual text and stats to see how badly things fell apart. (Card text is blurred out since the copy doesn't belong to me.)

Mock-ups of a couple of work-in-progress cards for the solo ttrpg RUNE: one for the Lost Knight and the other for the Skeleton. They don't look great, candidly! The same mocked-up cards, this time marked up with blue text to highlight some of the many shortcomings of this iteration of these cards. These include:
- making note of awkward empty spaces
- areas where border art is too busy/drawing attention
- suggestions to introduce greater clarity by organizing the movement/attack/block icons in a consistent way

If you’re thinking of watching K-Pop Demon Hunters you just need to ask yourself two questions: 1. Do I enjoy heartfelt storytelling paired with boundary-pushing animation? 2. Do I want the songs of a fictional k-pop band stuck in my head for the rest of my natural life?

Apparently I follow exactly enough ttrpg people to have a vague sense that discourse is happening without following enough ttrpg people to ever know exactly what the discourse is about.

Just finished my third week at a new job. It’s going to involve a lot more organization and management and a lot less hands-on animation - which I know I’ll miss - but it’s a fun project and an amazing team, and given the state of the industry super grateful not to be job-hunting still.

As usual I'm at the very forefront of new releases, but I finally got around to playing Gris, and man, what a lovely game. Beautiful art and animation, very polished controls, and you can finish it in an evening or two. Loved it so much I immediately played Neva, which is arguably even better.

I've been quiet on here because I have my head down job-hunting and also because the world is on fire, but I've been tweaking some of my animations and did a more extensive overhaul on this one. I think it's a big improvement!

I don't really care about football - hockey is my one true love - but it's very watchable, and I actually kind of miss going to superbowl parties. Unfortunately, since moving to Ontario all of the friends we've made also don't care about football, so it doesn't seem likely to happen.

I work as an animator in the games industry, and my contract is coming up in a couple of weeks. My reach on this platform extends to literally tens - TENS! - of people, but if anyone knows of any relevant positions coming up, let me know. Toronto-area or remote-friendly ideally! (Reel link below)

I discovered that you can now block people on Kickstarter, and have just been blocking anyone I come across who’s using AI in their projects. A+ feature.

I played the Thaumaturge demo on a whim, and I guess maybe it's a case of the right game at the right time, but it turns out what I really want to be doing right now is palling around with Rasputin in late Tsarist Russia.

Some just-for-fun attempts to design enemy tokens for @gilarpgs.bsky.social 's solo ttrpg Rune. I played it earlier this year and absolutely loved it - especially playing it physically at the table - but did find it difficult sometimes to track everything with lots of enemies on the board.

A crescent moon illuminates a skeleton in tattered clothes, carrying a large two-handed axe. Behind him a stone path winds its way up a small rise to a small edifice, presumably a crypt. The back of a game token made to look like elaborately carved stone.
There is a skull in the centre, and game text, which reads 'The Grim Coast'.Bild

I finally cut the cord and shut down my Twitter account. It was really only hockey that was keeping me there, but my love of hockey is outweighed by my hatred of fascism. These are some old Inktober drawings because I didn't find time to participate this year. Maybe Inkuary can be a thing?

A large robot crouching down to pet a very good dog.A bunch of goblins in lab coats hand-assembling an enormous homunculus, a la Frankenstein's monster. An angry, armoured pig warrior with a big sword and strong feelings about the world around him.A dude in a vaguely 18th-century looking coat with a spiked ball for a head contemplating a skull - his skull, perhaps?? - he is holding in his hand.

After a year of aggressively searching, and over 127 applications sent, I finally have a job again. The game industry is ROUGH right now, but it will be good to be animating again. I bought comics to celebrate!

Transformers and The Hunger and the Dusk graphic novels.

I'm Canadian, so you'd think that would grant me some separation, but I still find American politics super stressful. If you could resolve to just have a very normal, ordinary election cycle next time around, it would really help me out.

So I've been actively trying to use Bluesky instead of Twitter for a few weeks, and I have to say it's been really refreshing. While I haven't been able to remove Twitter completely - most of the animators and hockey accounts I follow aren't on Bluesky - the contrast between the two is stark.

This is older...some friends were trying to get funding for a tactical indie game and I did some mock-ups and preliminary designs for them. I still like this, though, and think it would have been fun to make if we'd had the chance.

Maybe this is too nerdy to post, but I have like one follower and he already knows I'm a nerd, so I have nothing to lose. After I drew my nomad/bounty hunter for Notorious I decided to draw his equipment. And give him a name that hopefully gives off authentic Glup Shitto vibes.

I've been really interested in solo board games and rpgs lately, and kickstarted Notorious/Outsiders a while back. For those who are unfamiliar, it's a Star Wars-but-not bounty hunter rpg and it seems really cool. This is the character I rolled up, and I'm excited to actually play!
