Roman ruins! Actually victorian brickworks that specialised in heat resistant bricks for steel making furnaces, which closed down in 1949. Now crumbling ruins overlooking the ocean. Interesting end to a good walk around the Anglesey coastal path.

Another day, another castle. Despite the lack of alarming warning signs (Beaumaris castle wins on that front), Penrhyn castle was much better than expected. Mock Norman, and constructed on profits from Jamaican sugar and Welsh slate - it lacks taste or real heart- and yet is spectacular.
Great day of lighthouse visiting, neolithic standing stones, and an amazing burial chamber. Enjoyment enhanced by seeing my first choughs this year, and a glimpse of a passing peregrine falcon.
I 'enjoyed' this unsettling read - if that's quite the right word. The mundane detail, the futility, and the horror at discovering an identical shopping list in an old jacket. #WIT (as an aside, another excellent fitzcarraldo publication - I've yet to read a disappointing one)
Cemaes bay before the dog walkers. Herons, egrets, curlew, ringed plover, oystercatcher, ravens (obligingly they croaked to confirm their identity- I'd assumed it was crows squabbling with sea gulls).
Visited Llyn Idwal in Snowdonia today- simply stunning! Glad we decided to park in Bangor and bus in too - small car park but excellent sausage rolls.
So very sad to see the destruction on Dunwich Heath. I spent a couple of hours criss crossing the heath in 2024 before finally spotting my first dartford warbler.
Great to see couple of hundred sandwich terns at Cemlyn nature reserve. The noise and spectacle was incredible- apparently far higher numbers until the last couple of weeks. Also great white egret, curlew, ringed and golden plover and lots of seals.

Having a miserable time on holiday... a pint of brains with a sea view! Long drive from South East London to Anglesey - but the stretch through Snowdonia was spectacular- very glad I eschewed motorway in favour of picturesque a-roads!
Last day of work before a much needed coastal break in north Wales- and the day has begun well - skip diving for a pile of Bob Dylan cds (plus a few others).
At least the half time 'entertainment' puts the dull first half in some context.

Accidental natural wine purchase turned out well! Gorgeous white burguny - slightly cloudy, and a hint of funk, but this really (or rully?!) worked and helped balance out the richness. Beautiful match with both duck and mushroom pate!
What a spectacular run by Josh Kerr. Live sport can sometimes deliver truly incredible theatre. Wow!

The temperature has dropped a couple of degrees and I now feel like cooking! Butterflied leg of lamb on the barbecue, a couple of bottles chilling. And I'm not sweating. Happy days
Feel like my goals for the day have been achieved- indoor temperature now 3 degrees lower than it was at 6am thanks to mass door and window opening. Soon time to shut all the windows and blinds again. Dreaming of autumn...

Very much enjoying reading this - and making the most of it being an acceptable temperature outside in the garden (for now). At least it's a mere amber warning today - and cooler temperatures tomorrow...
Tidying up the remains of my late uncle's cellar has sadly meant a lot of totally shot wines going down the drain, but its always exciting when one is unexpectedly intact. The deep gold colour points to oxidation, but this was rich and lovely - v much intact at 19 years old, and a real treat!

Well, that wasn't quite the day of test cricket I was anticipating. 49 minutes of play, and didn't even get chance to start on my picnic - pretty spectacular bowling by Henry however. Let's hope England are more competitive next game!

Very cool setting for the proclaimers at Chelsea hospital - added frisson of excitement provided by Scotland's world cup game tonight- sadly missed the photo of the Chelsea pensioners with Scotland flag!
