Glad to see that the Harlequin lines are still available at my local Walmart. (This photo was taken yesterday.) In fact they are the only mass-market paperbacks still sold there, the rest all being the larger (and more expensive) trade paperbacks. I bought the Hometown Home Run book.

A recent eBay purchase: The June/July 1983 issue of HEART LINE, a magazine of romance novel reviews. Not as interesting as Romantic Times unfortunately (although this was less much expensive to acquire).
Here are the final sale prices of those 8 issues of ROMANTIC TIMES that sold today on eBay. I didn't bid on any of them, though. Instead I bought an early 1980s romance-novel news magazine for $10 (including P&H) that most have never heard of. (More on that next week when it arrives in my mailbox.)
Attention fans of romance novel history! The first 10 issues of ROMANTIC TIMES magazine (back when it was a newspaper format) from 1981-82 have recently been listed on eBay. RT #8 & 9 actually sold a couple days ago, but the others all have bids on them. I'd bid on them myself, but they're pricey!
BBC in 1981 looks at Mills & Boon with a predictably snooty tone (though it could have been worse). Love seeing the books on the shelves in stores. "Yet, outside the immediate confines of her publishing house, hardly anyone has heard of Mary Wibberley." You mean outside of romance readers? Okay.

An early example of Lisa Kleypas' writing, prior to the publication of her first novel in 1987. Her review of the novelization of the movie "Jewel of the Nile" appeared in Romantic Times #26 (January/February 1986).
Looking at my copy of LOVE'S TENDER FURY by Jennifer Wilde (Tom E. Huff, 1938-1990) it's astonishing to see inside on the copyright page that my 4th Printing edition came out the same month as the 1st Printing! Wikipedia says the book "had 41 printings in its first five years."
Noticed today that a local library had some "mystery bags" of paperback books for sale, so I gave them a $5 bill and took home three bags. It was mostly a bust, but one of the bags did have a first printing of Janet Dailey's first Harlequin release, "No Quarter Asked."
In ROMANTIC TIMES #48 (Feb./March 1988) Kathryn Falk in her editorial mentions various romance novelists who are making the genre exciting. I've heard of all of the authors that she names, except one. Who the heck was Micki Perry?

Went to the used-book sale at a local library yesterday where they had these shelves filled with paperback books for free. I ended up taking home around 80 of them, almost all romance novels. The books were free for the taking, but I gave them a $5 bill donation anyway.
Next year, Harlequin Historical will have a novel featuring a suffragist for the heroine. (Not for the first time, of course.) I always find it interesting when real-life (and still relevant) politics are reflected in romance novels. www.harlequin.com/shop/books/9...
