Cool and damp in Coniston today, more rain forecast for tomorrow.

I seem to have been photographing Langdale Pikes from various locations over the last few days. So today I went to Langdale and you’ve guessed it… I photographed Langdale Pikes 😂

Some very fresh looking butterflies this morning. A speckled wood and a painted lady, both seen on our walk to Little Langdale.

Just coming into flower, Grass Of Parnassas, the county flower of Cumbria. Not a grass, but a flowering wetland herb. Increasingly rare in the south of England due to habitat loss, but plenty of boggy areas in Cumbria for it.

It’s surprising who you meet around Coniston if you get out early.

Other birds on Esthwaite include a healthy collection of great crested grebes.

Esthwaite ospreys. With one adult and three large chics, the nest was looking pretty crowded. The chics look like they will be fledging in a week or so.

An enjoyable walk through Tilberthwaite to Little Langdale and back via Hodge Close. Redstart, Heath spotted orchid, a view of Bowfell from the spinning gallery at Stang End and a distant view of Langdale Pikes from Hodge Close quarry.

Walking home and just had my Phone with me, but the view across the fields and the light… I couldn’t resist, one of Coniston Hall and one across the fields and the lake to Brantwood.
