Laser enthusiast, maker of CNC stuff, anti-fascist, and so can you!

Getting back to it! Laser’s been down for a few months while I troubleshoot & wait for warranty part in the mail. Only took 15 minutes to install the part that shut down operations, because of course it did Prototyping an aluminum business card for a “you make stuff?” business owner & loving it

Cool little key holder prototype I designed a while back. 0.5” (12.7mm) thick poplar, approximately 8”x5” (~200x125mm) Planning a series with John Muir quotes, this is mostly a proof of concept. Not the best use of a laser, so I’ll be redesigning this as a CNC/laser hybrid design. #LaserCut #Art

Others: You see how world governments have healthcare & social safety nets, so why don’t Americans do something? Americans: In the 1980’s A&W launched a 1/3 lb. burger at a lower price to compete with the 1/4 pounder from McDonald’s. It failed, because 3 is smaller than 4… Next question

Cool little wine box I modified from a design set I got on Etsy. Stained & unfinished basswood lid looks cool. Next time I’ll probably go for a lighter contrast on the bottom lattice layer, maybe a cherry/maple/walnut combo with a basswood body. 14.5”x3.8” (369x98mm) #Art #LaserCut

Trying out some new transfer paper masking. Seems decent so far, but I’m getting some minor bubbling when post-process sealing. Probably something I’m doing, not a product flaw, but an issue I haven’t worked out yet. Coasters test, design from Adobe Stock not labeled as AI, but I honestly dunno…

Netflix probably didn’t view a bunch of movies from the 60’s as problematic, but they’re just so rapey… James Bond walks into a room with a female and loses all ability to function. And of course she’s into it. Then he forces himself on half the cast & if she objects it’s like “oh you, behave!”

2nd try. Design looks cool, but using blue painter’s tape as a mask left a residue I can’t seem to remove. Going to try to find some low tack transfer paper locally as a masking for paint. Did a little cleanup on the design for V3, still needs more work before this one’s ready #Lasercut #Art

A green acrylic wall clock laser engraved with an image of trees, mountains, a compass, and a Bigfoot silhouette. The clock hands are made of walnut wood, shaped to resemble twigsBildBildBild

First test run for an acrylic clock. I wasn’t sure how the protective film would react to engraving & ran the power too high. The whole sheet curved during cutting & I snapped it trying to bend it back into shape. A little paint bleed, but overall a successful test #Lasercut #Lasersky #Art

Finding inspiration & motivation for design work can be difficult recently, but sometimes it’s a welcome distraction. Here’s a prototype clock cut in 3mm (1/4”) solid basswood, about 9” (225mm) tall. Twig-inspired hands need a little more work, but overall cool design I think #lasersky #art #pnw

It’s hard to get a good shot of this because it’s so shiny, but I’m really happy with how this Bigfoot silhouette in emerald pearl cast acrylic came out! I have another in this series with a ponytail & heels, thinking of offering them as a his/hers set or a pair of restroom signs #LaserCut #Art

Abalone inlay test. I forgot my kerf settings so the inlay is smaller than the pocket, but the test here was to get a .25mm pocket in walnut & finding cutting settings for the shell veneer. I think this is going to work! Next up: programmable wooden business cards with abalone inlay. #LaserCut
