Pega-ace🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇸 DROWNING DAWN BOOK KICKSTARTER SOON TM @pega-ace.bsky.social · 7d ago

Sneak Peak! I'm happy to announce my upcoming short story, The Drowning Dawn, appearing in a LANCER Mission Pack with Circle Trigon! Mecha, Sad Bureaucrats, and Tired Old Women await in this icy(!?) Southeast-Asian inspired tale. Kickstarter launches this Winter!🦾🦿 (art by @lennychomp.bsky.social)

A snowy back road on a winter evening, with shophouses and trash lining both streets. A rather grimy and conspicuous mech-van is parked opposite a convenience store and in front of an establishment marked with a sign that reads "SAMOVAR", where the O is an image of the boiler itself. In the background, a menacing looking army mech patrols the streets, one hand resting on the top of a two-storey shophouse and gatling gun in the other. Further off in the distance, a skyline of skyscrapers can be dimly made out, with a notable, single red radio beacon amongst them. (The convenience store is also named 24/10, since Nusbintra has 10-day weeks.)

I'm sorry alt-text can't contain all the text on this page.

That made me take the floating cat-drone a little more seriously. I lowered its friend carefully to the ground. The shapes in the distance were steadily drawing nearer. Our Junior Administrator was helpfully shrinking back in their seat. Warily, I pulled on a few control knobs to restart the engine, and called out again. “Hey, what’s happening out there?”

Thoom… Thoom!

Coughing slush out of xyr mouth, the figure responded. “The demonstrations got nasty real quick! We thought we were prepared, but they brought out those police mechs out of nowhere!”

THOOM! THOOM!

Cursing again under my breath, I made a snap decision. “Well you’re not getting far on foot! Administrator, scooch in! We’re taking a shortcut!”

CRASH!

Just ahead, a massive foot the size of my quadruped smashed an unlucky hoverbike into pieces.

There was a very un-administrator-like scream.

“Citizens! Do not resist! Those participating in unlawful assembly will be prosecuted! Civilians should return back to their domiciles at once!”

The warning was superfluous, as always. A hail of rubber bullets spewed forth from the automatic cannon mounted on its wrist, shattering the windshield of the van next to us, and more than likely leaving its occupants with the need for urgent medical attention they were unlikely to receive.

“Well get the hell in!” Without waiting for a response, I “helped” the hapless protestor in by tossing xyr in via my manipulators, drone barely managing to follow before I slammed the door shut. Activating the emergency systems I had been preparing, oversized mechanical locks sprung into action, releasing their stored energy all at once and taking us, like a grasshopper, clear over traffic and onto a side road. The screaming next to me heightened into hysterics.

In the rear-view mirror, another stomp burst a car into flames, and plumes of yellow gas started to stain the snow, but such things were no longer my concern.

I'm sorry alt-text can't contain all the text on this page.

Chapter 4: Amplification

Luxe?

Luxe’s Personal Log, Entry 46, 14 Vent 417.

Caught up via notes from HX. We’re going on a safari!? To hunt a giant, predatory snake!? Well, I suppose if it’s for the mission… Rin apparently agreed mostly so we could “lay low” out of town. Large chunk of Union funding was spent securing local guides for this endeavour, so I really am locked into this course of action. Oh me… (This will be fun for us! XOXO –HX)

Luxe’s Personal Log, Entry 47, 16 Vent 417. (Operation Snake Eater Day 1)

Today began trek from base camp in Kampung Eunos out into the wilds. We’ll be following the coastline along the bay, through the path of the retreating glacier. Stocked up with supplies from local pasar (Rin’s teaching me a little local language), loaded onto our 4 mechs. (Where did Aida and Rin manage to get a mech??? It’s custom painted too! Must inquire eventually.) Weather looks good, and Aida says it should hold for the next month, which should be more than enough time. Xe was still a little stand-offish, though. I do hope xe’s not still mad at me…

Luxe’s Personal Log, Entry 49, 17 Vent 417. (Operation Snake Eater Day 2)

Oh, this is harder than I imagined! Reached first site today. Equipment very heavy; had to rely on Angie and the rest to deploy listening kits. Felt mostly like I had to keep out of their way. Was encouraged to join in, but didn’t know how… (Jiayou, Luxe! -HX)

Luxe’s Personal Log, Entry 53, 19 Vent 417. (Operation Snake Eater Day 4)

Site 1 complete, only faint traces of anything resembling suspected target. Still within expectations, we should gather enough data to track it by site 3. Should reach site 2 tomorrow. Finally worked up the courage to ask Aida and Rin where they got their mecha from, but the only responses I got were “It’s a secret” and “In a cave, from a box of scraps” respectively. Guess they still don’t trust me… Also noted HX has been sneaking in notes

Half a page from my story.

Most of what people mentioned in the last artwork was how massive Susie was. I assume as a good thing, right? (Is she not usually pretty big?) So here she is in full <3 #susie #deltarune

A fullbody illustration of Susie from Deltarune taken from the background of my last illustration.
She is wearing clothes for cold weather and eying a cup of coffee.

Still patiently waiting to be "left behind" by AI rather than it chasing me across every damn space like a slasher in a low budget flick.
