Caistor, Lincolnshire. Mostly birds. Plus irregular garden Moth-ing & Occasional Butterflies & Dragonflies.
A slightly cooler weather forecast for yesterday, so we finally made the trip to Gloucestershire to see the Long-tailed Shrike. What a bird! #ukbirding
Aside from the Spot Fly's, we had fun watching a couple of juvenile Treecreepers on our patch at the weekend, one here... #Lincsbirding
We did see a couple of the juvenile Spotted Flycatchers being fed by a parent, and plenty of them catching their own food flying up from branches and fenceposts, but this one was taking the unusual route, finding the easy pickings of a few ants and bugs off of the road. #Lincsbirding #UkBirding
Typical that an adult arrived just as I pressed stop recording on my phone. #Lincsbirding #phonescoped
Adult and juvenile Spotted Flycatcher, two of 14 seen locally this morning, 8 juvs. That's 11 fledged young so far, plus another pair in that area and one now sitting on a second brood! #Lincsbirding @lincsbirding.bsky.social #phonescoped
Can't say that I'd ever thought about Dragonfly poop before, I mean, who would? Until I watched this #phonescoped video back. Southern Hawker, Crowle Moors, Lincolnshire. #dragonflies @lincswildlife.bsky.social
Brown Hares, just chilling together. Spotted when we were out birding at the weekend. Alison's #phonescoped video. #ukwildlife @lincswildlife.bsky.social
Roesel's Bush-cricket, new for us in our Caistor, Lincolnshire garden yesterday. #insects @lincswildlife.bsky.social
Quick change of plan to cancel a plumber(who needs water?) meant we could go to Anderby for the Stone Curlew on Monday - what a super bird! In turn meant we were minutes away to dash to Huttoft when news of the Greenish Warbler broke! Came home fixed (bodged?) the leak ourselves too Win win win!
Great to catch up with a singing male Tree Pipit in North Lincolnshire yesterday, poor lad almost got blown off his perch a couple of times. #lincsbirding #ukbirding
Sound up and you might be able to hear one of two Quails calling over the wind noise, at Searby Top yesterday evening. One of them even gave us a flight view! #lincsbirding #ukbirding Can you get a 'dead cat' for a phone? Would it even work?
Also at Chambers Farm Wood this Hornet with its lunch, we thought it might be munching a Damselfly at first but not at all sure about that. @lincswildlife.bsky.social
A successful visit to Chambers Farm Wood on Monday morning for Purple Emperor, Purple Hairstreak (lucky to spot on resting low down) and Silver-washed Fritillary. Plus another 10 species to back them up. @lincswildlife.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social
And photos of a couple of the five adults seen yesterday
Another Spotted Flycatcher video from our patch yesterday #lincsbirding
One of our (at least three) patch pairs of Spotted Flycatcher was clearly busy feeding young in the nest yesterday #ukbirding #lincsbirding
A great evening of farmland birding locally yesterday, at least 8 singing Corn Buntings, up to 20 Yellow Wagtails, some feeding young, 4 singing Yellowhammers, and 2 calling Quails #lincsbirding #ukbirding
After the moth trap on Monday morning we visited Chambers Wood in search of butterflies, saw 11 species including Black Hairstreak and Silver-washed Fritillary (no pic 😕) both new for us, plus White Admiral.
33 of 16 in our Caistor, Lincolnshire garden on Monday morning, with Heart and Club and Barred Straw NFG plus Buff Ermine, Clouded Border, White Plume and Celypha striana NFY.
A few phone photos of one of two Broad-bordered Bee Hawk Moths seen at Chambers Wood garden this morning, a Lifer for us. #teammoth
Found this on the inside of our moffice (summerhouse) roof, thinking it's a solitary wasp of some sort, but Alison isn't keen on things that buzz, can someone more knowledgeable confirm my thinking that it is harmless to her please. @manfrommarton.bsky.social maybe? Thanks very much.
Had the incredible privilege to watch a family of Nuthatch fledge on our patch this morning. Ultimate five youngsters. A couple of phonescoped videos of the event... Ok, one at a time in the comments. #lincsbirding #ukbirding #phonescoped
97 of 35 in our Caistor,Lincs trap yesterday morning.1st Elephant Hawk Moth of the year & 7 NFG, inc fa.flavescens Cinnabar, Pale Oak Beauty and this Pug which app insists is Freyer's, can anyone confirm or correct that for us please? Pugs give us palpitations 😂 #teammoth
Sunday turned out to be a very good day for us. After our first Quail of the year (heard only) on a localish walk. We popped into Cleethorpes for our first UK Purple Heron. Then rounded off by finding that our local Nightjars are back (well one at least) #ukbirding
The Purple Heron at Cleethorpes country park showed pretty well around lunchtime. A UK and #Lincsbirding ✔️ for us both.
The last new bird of our Suffolk trip was this smart Tree Pipit, only noticed the Colour Rings in the photos later, looks like Black over metal BTO right leg and possibly red on the left - probably another ring on that leg though so I doubt it will be possible to get any details for him? #ukbirding
we had three days birding in Suffolk at the weekend, 103 species seen, 15 First of Year birds, including Stone Curlew, Dartford Warbler, Zitting Cisticola, Turtle Dove, Cuckoo, loads of Nightingales and 1 Lifer - Iberian Chiffchaff... #ukbirding
Our few days birding in Suffolk last weekend started with a big surprise... Stone Curlews with chicks already! (and sorry, but heat haze at 8.56am!) #ukbirding
six First of year species for us @rspbframptonmarsh.bsky.social yesterday, Sedge Reed Warblers, C.Whitethroat, Little Stint, and some sparkling Yellow Wagtails, but this partially leucistic Brent Goose was a star of the day #ukbirding #lincsbirding
