I became a pediatric pulmonologist because of the asthma epidemic I witnessed as a medical student and pediatric resident in the Bronx. I took care of countless children who couldn’t breathe and whose mothers who couldn’t sleep because their children couldn’t breathe. Thank you, Mr. Mayor. 🙏

What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards. Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.
